Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this email regarding concert that I attended last week in our local park.
There were many concerts last week but I did not get a chance to attend all. I only attended Greek folk song which was outstanding. I did not expect it will turn out my best concert ever. I came with my friend as she suggested me to attend this concert once in a life.
I enjoyed almost everything specially a person who was playing drum. He was so energetic as well as accurate while he was playing along with his team. Honestly, I did not understand greek words that much but I really enjoyed their rythm that they were playing. Besides that, there were many food court and I tried greek food for the first time which turned out best dish in my life.
However, I was little bit disappointed with garbage bins arragements. There were only a few bins and did not see anyone who can keep replace bags once they get full. It would be great and nice if you could increase number of garbage bins and hire cleaners.
Overall, my experince was memoreable and I will definetely visit next year.
Thanks and Regards,
Sam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the Greek folk music concert, explain your enjoyment through the energetic drummer, the rhythm and the food, and suggest adding bins and employing cleaners. These details make the feedback relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your experience. The positive evaluation is also clear in phrases such as “outstanding” and “memorable.” Some points are less fully developed, however: the reasons for enjoying the performance are listed rather than explored, and the improvement request could explain how overflowing bins affected the event or suggest a specific cleaning schedule. The email framing is understandable, but a more consistently formal letter style would better suit writing to the council.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the purpose, describes the concert and what you enjoyed, then turns to a problem and closes with a positive summary. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “Besides that,” “However,” and “Overall” guide the reader. Some links are mechanical or imprecise, though. For example, “There were many concerts last week but I did not get a chance to attend all” does not connect smoothly to the specific concert that follows, and “Besides that” introduces the food detail without showing its relationship to the performance. Clearer links between each example and your overall evaluation, along with more precise referencing, would make the progression more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main experience, including “energetic,” “accurate,” “disappointed,” and “memorable.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “Greek folk song” and “garbage bins.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “rythm,” “arragements,” “experince,” and “definetely.” Some combinations are unnatural or unclear, such as “a person who was playing drum,” “food court,” and “keep replace bags.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they make parts less natural. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for describing live music, facilities and maintenance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of short statements and longer sentences, including clauses with “as well as,” “while,” and “which,” so there is some variety. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I did not expect it will turn out” needs a consistent past-time construction, and “I came with my friend as she suggested me to attend” has an incorrect verb pattern. Articles and plurals also need attention in “attended Greek folk song,” “playing drum,” and “many food court.” The sentence about bins, “There were only a few bins and did not see anyone,” lacks a clear subject in its second clause. More accurate verb forms, sentence subjects and noun forms would improve control.
