Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir,

I am writing to give you feedback on the free concerts organised in our local park this summer.

I artended the music live concert on saturday in the evening where many local artists performed different type of music, including trasitionnal music. The atmosphere was so good and many people came with their families and friends.

I particularly enjoyed the concert because they were the most musicians at the time and the music was entertaining. Moreover, the event gave me opportunity to relax, meet our neighbours, and enjoy ourselves without spending money. The sound quality was also wonderful and the general organisation was good.

However, I would like to suggest a few improvements for next summer. Firstly, the council should provide more chairs for elder people and families with children. Secondly, more rubbish bins should be placed near the chairs to keep concert area clean. Finally, I believe the concert should start earlier.

Thanks you for organising these wonderful events. I hope you will considered my suggestion for next summer.

Your faithfully,

A local resident

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you identify the Saturday evening concert, explain that you enjoyed the atmosphere, music, sound quality and chance to socialise for free, and offer practical suggestions about seating, bins and an earlier start. The letter also maintains a polite, appropriate purpose and tone. Your reasons are relevant, but a few are asserted rather than fully explained—for example, “the music was entertaining” and “the general organisation was good” could be supported with a specific detail. The suggestion to start earlier would also be stronger if you explained who would benefit or why. Developing these points with brief examples would make the feedback more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce your purpose, describe the concert and your enjoyment, then move to suggestions and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “Finally” make the sequence easy to follow. The ideas are generally connected logically, although the list of positive features and the list of recommendations can feel somewhat formulaic. You could improve the flow by linking related details more naturally and varying the transitions. For instance, connect the family-friendly atmosphere to your suggestion for more seating, or explain how additional bins would support the enjoyable park setting.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and communicates the main points, with useful topic language such as “atmosphere,” “sound quality,” “rubbish bins” and “local artists.” You also use polite expressions suited to a formal letter. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “music live concert,” “the most musicians,” and “concert area clean.” There are also spelling errors such as “artended” and “trasitionnal,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, “live music concert,” “many musicians performing,” and “keep the concert area clean” would express your meaning more idiomatically.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the concert on Saturday in the evening where…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “they were the most musicians,” “gave me opportunity,” “I hope you will considered,” and “Your faithfully.” These involve sentence construction, missing articles and verb forms. There is also inconsistent capitalisation in the greeting and day of the week. Review article use and verb patterns after modal verbs: “will consider” is the correct form. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your existing sentence variety, would strengthen the letter.
