Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide feedback on my recent visit to one of the concerts organised in our local park this summer.

I attended a musical concert on last Sunday. This event had a number of international singers who brought different music for our community. I feel grateful that I got an opportunity to attend a free live show of Maroon 5 band who performed musical instrument. I attended this show because I always wanted to listen live musical instrument and songs performed by Adam Levine. I particularly enjoyed this musical night as the band played different genres to connect with the audience. In addition, I really admired the energetic atmosphere and loud applaude from the listeners.

Nevertheless, I would suggest that you make some necessary improvements to make the concert more engaging. I found it challenging to connect with the singer because my view was blocked by some of the people. It would be great, if you could add more larger screens beside the stage to view the music band more closely in next summer's concerts.

Thank you for considering my feedback.

Yours faithfully,

Payal Bhakta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you identify the Maroon 5 concert, explain your enjoyment through the live performance, varied genres and energetic audience, and suggest adding screens to improve visibility. The letter maintains a suitable, polite purpose and gives relevant details, such as wanting to hear Adam Levine perform live. To strengthen the response further, develop the improvement suggestion with another practical idea or explain more specifically how screens would help people at the back. The reason for attending and the enjoyment are clear, although some details overlap around hearing the band live. Overall, the task is fully addressed and the main ideas are extended with relevant support, even if a few could be developed more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: an opening purpose, a paragraph describing the concert and your reaction, a paragraph offering a suggestion, and a polite closing. Linking expressions such as “In addition” and “Nevertheless” help signal how ideas relate, and the reader can follow the account without difficulty. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal feedback letter. Some connections could be made more precise: “Nevertheless” suggests a stronger contrast than the shift from enjoyment to a practical improvement requires, while “this event” and “this show” repeat the same reference. Use a more natural transition such as “To improve future concerts,” and vary references where possible. The organisation is consistently clear, though cohesion is not always fully unobtrusive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some useful descriptive choices, such as “energetic atmosphere,” “different genres,” and “engaging.” These help convey both your positive reaction and your suggestion. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “musical concert,” “free live show,” “performed musical instrument,” and “loud applaude.” “Musical instrument” does not express the idea of hearing the band perform live, and “applaude” is misspelled. There is also repetition of “concert,” “show,” and “music band.” Aim for more natural combinations such as “live performance,” “played a range of genres,” and “enthusiastic applause.” The message remains clear, but more accurate collocation and spelling would make the language more flexible and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a free live show of Maroon 5 band who performed…” and the conditional suggestion “if you could add…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “on last Sunday” needs “last Sunday” or “on Sunday,” and “a number of international singers who brought different music” has an unclear construction. In “It would be great, if…,” the comma is unnecessary, while “more larger screens” combines two comparative forms; use “larger screens.” The phrase “in next summer’s concerts” also needs an article or a different construction, such as “at next summer’s concerts.” The range is developing, but these errors prevent consistently accurate control.
