Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to express my gratitude about the concert that was held on sunday in the local green park.

To begin with,I attended the singing concert which was organised by the local council and that was led by the reowned singer Shaan. I am a huge fan of this singer and had been waiting for this moment since long time.

I was really impressed by the concert. Firstly, the management was too polite and volunteers helped the people who were not able to find their seats. Moreover, the arrangements in the park were so well-organised followed by the different cuisines made the concert more captivating.

I would highly recommend few suggestions for the next summer's event is, to provide high quality sound system which could clearly heard at the back and implement more projectors so people can view the performance from any corner.

I am looking forward for the upcoming concert with the improvements.

Yours sincerly,

Monika Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you identify the Sunday singing concert led by Shaan, explain your enjoyment through the singer’s appeal and the helpful volunteers, and suggest better sound equipment and more projectors. Your positive view is clear throughout, and the reasons and recommendations are relevant. The feedback is strongest when describing the volunteers and the viewing and sound improvements; the comments about the food and overall arrangements are less specific, so the evaluation is not equally developed in every part. To strengthen the response further, explain how the cuisines or park arrangements affected your experience, and make each recommendation more precise—for example, describe where speakers or screens should be placed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to the concert attended, to reasons for enjoying it, and finally to suggestions and a closing. Paragraphing supports this structure, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Firstly,” and “Moreover” help readers follow the points. The ideas are generally connected logically, although some linking is a little mechanical, and the sentence beginning “I would highly recommend” makes the two suggestions harder to follow because they are joined in an awkward structure. Use transitions more selectively and give each recommendation its own clearly structured sentence. The opening and closing also suit the formal letter format.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “captivating,” “well-organised,” “management,” and “projectors,” and the meaning remains clear. There is also some attempt to use more expressive vocabulary, such as “a huge fan” and “really impressed.” However, several choices or collocations are inaccurate or less natural: “gratitude about” would be better expressed as “feedback on” or “appreciation for,” while “the management was too polite” does not clearly describe the service. Spelling errors such as “reowned” and “sincerly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling, especially in the formal opening and sign-off.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “the singing concert which was organised … and that was led by” and the reason clause “so people can view the performance.” The message is understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “since long time” needs an article and a more suitable time expression, and “which could clearly heard” is missing a passive verb form (“could be heard”). The recommendation sentence also has a faulty structure: “I would highly recommend few suggestions … is, to provide…” Revise it as two complete sentences, such as “I recommend providing a high-quality sound system. More projectors would also help…” Check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
