Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing regarding the free concerts organised by our local council in our community park on 12th of August 2026. I was asked to leave my review for them to get better next year.

There were three events organised and I had the opportunity to attend the music fest. I want to appreciate the initiative taken from the counsil to make it free for local public and have stalls in there, where people could buy food at a cheaper rates. I found out that the place was kept clean and there were voulenteers helping out people with any possible hasstle.

I would recommend to invite some known artists to the concert so more people are interested to join next year. Some of my favriot musician's include Jhon Paul, Tim Brat. There also could be some more lighting introduced at the stage as I felt it was a little dark.

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Xyz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify the music festival, explain that you valued the free entry, food stalls, cleanliness and volunteer support, and suggest inviting better-known performers and adding stage lighting. These details make the letter relevant and show a clear, appropriate purpose. The positive feedback is more developed than the suggestions, however: the artists are named but you do not explain what kind of music or performers would attract a wider audience, and the lighting point could include a practical detail. The opening and closing are suitable for a formal letter. To strengthen the response further, extend each recommendation with a brief reason or example so the council can act on it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening explains its purpose, the middle paragraphs describe the event and offer suggestions, and the closing is appropriate. Paragraphing helps distinguish your feedback from your recommendations, and the sequence is easy to follow. Some links between ideas are basic, though, and the second paragraph places several points together without showing how they relate. For example, the move from free entry to food stalls and then cleanliness could be made smoother with clearer transitions. The phrase “There were three events organised” also leaves the reader unsure how this relates to the music festival you attended. Use more precise referencing and connect each detail to your overall evaluation to make progression more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “initiative,” “volunteers,” “stalls” and “lighting.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “known artists,” although this is not the most natural collocation in this context. Several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “counsil,” “voulenteers,” “hasstle” and “favriot,” and these reduce the accuracy and polish of the letter. Phrases such as “at cheaper rates” and “make it free for local public” also need more natural wording. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for giving feedback, such as “well-known performers” and “free admission.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and the meaning is generally clear. For example, “I found out that the place was kept clean and there were volunteers helping out people” combines related information, while “as I felt it was a little dark” gives a reason for your suggestion. Some grammatical errors remain. In “on 12th of August,” the article is missing before the date; “I was asked to leave my review for them to get better next year” has an unclear pronoun reference and awkward clause structure. The phrase “people could buy food at a cheaper rates” also has a number-agreement problem. Review articles, singular and plural agreement, and sentence construction, while continuing to use a range of sentence patterns.
