Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Harman and I am the local resident of town Jalandhar. I am writing this letter in response to the request asked for feedback about the concerts. I must say that I was delighted when I first heard that my favourite singer, 'Ali Aslam' was coming.

The series of concert were amazing and the services were handled pretty much carefully. The management was determined to provide the best to the listeners and by this, they offered good quality of seating arrangements along with hastel free entry. Despite of large crowd, the facilities were well maintained. I enjoyed the music of my favourite singer as he sung all of his super hits.

I was disappointed because of lack of food and drinks provided. There was no such arrangements. Therefore, I would like to recommend hiring local business in the next summer's concert. This will help their business and the concert as well.

I hope my suggestions will be considered.

Kind regards,

Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover the main requirements by identifying the performer, explaining that you enjoyed hearing his hits, and suggesting that local businesses provide food and drinks next summer. The positive comments about seating, entry and crowd management also make the feedback relevant. However, the concert itself is not identified very precisely: “my favourite singer, ‘Ali Aslam’” tells the reader who performed, but not the concert’s name or style. The reasons for enjoying it are also brief, while the improvement suggestion would be stronger if you explained how food and drink provision would benefit attendees or described another practical change. Developing these points more fully would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening explains its purpose, the middle paragraphs give positive and negative feedback, and the closing is appropriate. The progression from enjoyment to a problem and then a recommendation is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Despite of large crowd” and “Therefore” help show contrast and consequence, although the first is not formed correctly and “by this” is an unclear reference. The opening also spends several sentences on background before reaching the concert feedback. For smoother cohesion, use more precise links between each point and ensure pronouns or phrases clearly refer to the idea intended. The paragraphing is functional, but the ideas within the positive-feedback paragraph could be grouped more tightly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for giving feedback, including “delighted,” “facilities,” “seating arrangements,” and “recommend,” and the reader can understand your main points. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “hassle-free entry,” though the spelling is inaccurate in “hastel free.” Some word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural: “the request asked for feedback,” “the series of concert,” and “hiring local business” do not express the ideas idiomatically. “Super hits” is also informal for a letter to the council. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “request for feedback,” “concert series,” and “invite local vendors to provide refreshments.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex forms, for example, “Despite of large crowd, the facilities were well maintained” and “This will help their business and the concert as well.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “I am the local resident of town Jalandhar,” the article and noun phrase need adjustment; “The series of concert were” has a number-agreement problem; and “he sung” uses the wrong past-tense form. The construction “Despite of” also needs a different grammatical pattern, such as “Despite the large crowd.” Continue practising agreement, articles and verb forms, while checking that longer sentences are built accurately.
