Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide feedback on the recent free concerts that were organized by the local council on January 18th , 2025. I attended the Burning Man Concert and wanted to share the experince in the concert and help the council to make future suggestion.
I really enjoyed that concert. The band consisted of four members and John my favourite singer. The atmosphere was thrilling and exciting. I really liked how the council provided free entries to the local people making it a thrilling experience.
However, there are few areas that could be improved for next summer concert. First public washroom was limitied, resulting in long queue. Second, there was not enough rubbish bin, which resulted in people throwing litter here and there. So, more bins should be installed to make area look clean.
I hope you would look into this matter and make necessary improvements in the future concert.
Yours Sincerly
Anna

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the Burning Man concert, explain that you enjoyed the band and atmosphere, and suggest adding washrooms and rubbish bins. The reasons are relevant, and the practical suggestions give the council useful feedback. The enjoyment section is less fully developed than the improvement section: “John my favourite singer” is not explained, and the benefit of free entry is stated rather than supported with a specific detail. The date also appears inconsistent with the task’s reference to summer, so make sure the event details are clear and accurate. To strengthen the letter further, explain what made the performance memorable and give a little more detail about how the proposed changes would help attendees.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening purpose, a paragraph about the concert, a paragraph of suggestions, and a polite closing. Sequencing words such as “First” and “Second” help readers follow the recommendations, and the contrast signalled by “However” is appropriate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, particularly “share the experince in the concert and help the council to make future suggestion,” where the relationship between feedback and future improvements is unclear. The suggestions are also presented as short points without much development. Use clearer linking phrases and connect each problem directly to its proposed solution—for example, explain that additional washrooms would reduce queues. This would make the progression more natural and less list-like.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “atmosphere,” “thrilling,” “rubbish bin,” and “long queue.” However, the range is limited, and several word-choice, spelling, or collocation errors make the letter less natural: “experince,” “future suggestion,” “free entries,” and “public washroom was limitied.” Some phrases are also repetitive, such as “thrilling” and “concert.” Choose more precise expressions and check spelling and plural forms carefully. For instance, “share my experience of the concert” is more natural than “share the experince in the concert,” while “additional public toilets” and “more waste bins” would express the recommendations clearly. These improvements would make your meaning more fluent and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including the result clause “which resulted in people throwing litter here and there.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. For example, “The band consisted of four members and John my favourite singer” lacks punctuation and a clear grammatical link between the ideas; “there are few areas” needs an article, and “more bins should be installed to make area look clean” needs an article before “area.” There are also punctuation-spacing problems after “However” and “First.” Practise building complete sentences around descriptions and recommendations, and check articles, sentence boundaries, and commas. More consistently accurate control of these forms would improve clarity.
