Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well.

I am writing to give my feedback on a series of concerts organised by the a local council. Although there were seven concerts held; however, I was able to attend one of the concerts which was held on Monday, 7th July. The concert was performed by three renowned bands; Jal, Strings and Junoon bands.

The concert was a full package. It was a great experience to witness the performances of three popular bands altogether. I thoroughly enjoyed the performances. Everything was well organised and well managed. I personally liked the stage and the lightening. It was giving the vibe of an international concert. Furthermore, the food stalls offered a variety of foods and drinks, from street food to snacks; in addition, I was impressed to see the way they are maintaining the hygiene.

However, I would like to give you some suggestions for next summer's concerts. You should pick a big ground instead of a park to accommodate more number of people. Moreover, there must be a seperate space for families and sitting setup for elderly people so that everyone can enjoy the performances.

Thank you in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Zara Shaikh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you identify the concert and its performers, explain your enjoyment through the bands, organisation, stage and food stalls, and offer practical suggestions for next summer. Details such as the date and the provision of a separate family area make the feedback specific and relevant. Your positive evaluation is also clear throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain the impact of the proposed larger venue or seating arrangements—for example, how these would improve comfort or access. The suggestion to use a “big ground instead of a park” could also be made more precise, since the concert already took place in a park; clarify whether you mean a larger park or a different venue.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to your experience, and then to suggestions, with paragraphing that helps the reader follow each stage. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Moreover” connect related points, and the closing is appropriate. Some connections are less smooth: “Although there were seven concerts held; however” combines two contrasting linkers, so use one, such as “Although seven concerts were held, I attended one.” The food-stall sentence also uses several links and punctuation marks in quick succession, making the relationship between ideas feel slightly crowded. More controlled transitions and a little less stacking of connectors would make the flow more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range for a formal feedback letter, including “renowned,” “thoroughly enjoyed,” “accommodate,” and “variety,” and your meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “a full package” and “the vibe of an international concert.” However, some choices are imprecise or informal for this context: “big ground” and “sitting setup” could be expressed more naturally, while “lightening” appears to be a spelling error for “lighting.” “More number of people” is also an awkward phrase. These slips do not prevent understanding, but more accurate collocations and consistent formality would strengthen the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including “so that everyone can enjoy the performances” and the sentence beginning “Although.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the letter includes some effective sentence variety. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation issues to control. In “Although there were seven concerts held; however,” the contrast structure and punctuation are faulty; use either “Although seven concerts were held, I attended one” or “Seven concerts were held; however, I attended one.” “The concert was performed by three renowned bands; Jal, Strings and Junoon bands” also has an unclear construction. Review article use and sentence boundaries to make these structures more accurate.
