Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to share my feedback about a series of free concerts that were organised by the local council in a local park recently.
Last week, I attended a singing concert that was performed by one of the most famous punjabi artists Daljit. It started in the evening at 9am. It finished after two hours that was expected to last within one hour.
I enjoyed this event as he is my favourite singer and the performance was quite lively and energetic. Everyone in the event was dancing, and singing with him, which helped to relax and offered an opportunity to get a break from daily routine.
Although the series of concerts was amazing overall, I would suggest it if in upcoming events the performance hours could be exceeded, so people can enjoy more. Additionally, it would also be helpful if some cultural and historical exhibitions could be added to educate young people with an interesting way.
Thank you for arranging such a wonderful event for local residents. I hope my suggestions will be taken into consideration to improve the next event.
Yours faithfully,
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the concert as a performance by Daljit, explain that you enjoyed his lively singing and the chance to relax, and offer suggestions for future events. Your positive, polite tone is appropriate for writing to the council, and the ideas are relevant and supported with some explanation. The enjoyment point is the most developed, while the suggestions could be more specific: for example, explain what longer performance hours would mean for the schedule, and how exhibitions could fit alongside the concerts. Also clarify the concert details, since “last week” and “this summer” are not linked, and “9am” conflicts with “in the evening.” More precise details would make the feedback more convincing and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to the concert experience, to suggestions and a courteous closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Although” and “Additionally” guide the movement between ideas. The overall organisation is easy to follow. Some connections could be smoother and more precise, however. In “I would suggest it if in upcoming events the performance hours could be exceeded,” the reference of “it” is unclear and the sentence is difficult to follow. The shift from praising the concerts to proposing exhibitions would also benefit from a clearer link explaining how this addition relates to the event. Use cohesive devices naturally, while ensuring each pronoun clearly refers to an idea already mentioned.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including positive descriptions such as “lively and energetic” and “wonderful event,” as well as topic-related terms like “cultural and historical exhibitions.” These choices communicate your meaning and help maintain a friendly, appreciative tone. Some word choices and collocations are less natural, which limits precision: “singing concert” could be expressed more idiomatically, and “performance hours could be exceeded” does not clearly convey that you want a longer programme. “Educate young people with an interesting way” is also awkwardly phrased. Aim for natural combinations of words and choose precise terms for the changes you are recommending. Check proper names and capitalisation, including “Punjabi” and the performer’s name.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause in “I enjoyed this event as he is my favourite singer” and the relative clause “which helped to relax.” Most sentences remain understandable, and the letter’s meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors affect accuracy, though. In “It finished after two hours that was expected to last within one hour,” the relative clause does not attach correctly and the verb agreement is incorrect; recast this as two clear clauses. The conditional suggestion beginning “I would suggest it if…” is also structurally awkward. There are smaller issues with articles and punctuation, such as the comma before “and singing.” Practise forming clear conditional suggestions and checking agreement and clause structure.
