This summer your local council organised a series of free concerts in your local park. You attended one of the concerts. The council has asked for feedback about the concerts.
Write a letter to the council giving your feedback. In your letter
say which concert you attended
explain why you enjoyed the concert
make suggestions for improving next summer's concerts
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to give feedback about the concerts that I attended a few days ago.
I attended the singing concert with some of my friends on Saturday. There are many artists who performed live and gave their best in their performances.
I really enjoyed that concert with my dear ones. It was a wonderful experience. The artists were extremely talented, and their songs created a lively atmosphere. Moreover, the event did not have any entry fee; due to this, people from different
backgrounds could enjoy this event without paying a penny.
However, I would like to suggest some improvements for next time. First of all, the council should provide more seating arrangements for elderly people and families with little kids. Additionally, placing rubbish bins around the park would help to keep the area clean. Providing food stalls and public toilets would also make the event more comfortable for visitors.
I hope my suggestion will help make next summer's events even better.
Yours faithfully,
Ramanjeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you identify the Saturday singing concert, explain your enjoyment through the performers’ talent, lively atmosphere and free entry, and suggest practical improvements. The positive response is supported with relevant details, while the recommendations—seating for older people and families, rubbish bins, food stalls and toilets—are clear and useful. The ideas are generally extended, although the description of the concert itself is somewhat general: “many artists” and “their songs” do not give a specific example of what made the performance memorable. Adding one concrete detail, such as a particular style of music or a moment from the show, would make the feedback more fully developed and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to the concert and reasons for enjoying it, and then to suggestions and a closing statement. Paragraphing supports this structure, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “However,” “First of all” and “Additionally” help readers follow the points. The recommendations are grouped logically, and the final sentence provides an appropriate conclusion. To make the flow more polished, vary the way ideas are linked rather than relying mainly on explicit transition words. The opening could also identify the event more directly, and the shift from the concert description to the personal reaction could be connected more smoothly. Overall, the organisation is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including positive descriptions such as “talented” and “lively atmosphere,” as well as relevant terms such as “seating arrangements” and “public toilets.” The language is clear, but some expressions are repetitive or imprecise: “concert” and “event” recur, while “singing concert” and “gave their best in their performances” are not especially natural or specific. “Dear ones” is understandable but sounds less idiomatic in this context. More precise collocations and a wider range of event-related vocabulary would make the letter more fluent and flexible. For example, you could describe the music genre, the performers’ set, or the audience experience rather than relying on general praise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a useful mix of simple and more complex sentence forms. For instance, “Moreover, the event did not have any entry fee; due to this, people from different backgrounds could enjoy this event without paying a penny” combines related ideas, and the suggestions use clear modal structures such as “should provide” and “would help.” Most sentences communicate their meaning without difficulty. Some grammatical and punctuation control is still uneven: the opening says “the concerts that I attended” although the letter describes one concert, and the semicolon before “due to this” is not the smoothest punctuation choice. The extra space before “I really enjoyed” also affects presentation. Continue checking number agreement and punctuation, while practising a broader range of complex sentence patterns.
