Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to give my feedback regarding a series of free concerts organised by the local council in our park.
Although there were numerous concerts arranged, I could only attend few of them due to professional and personal commitments. One of the concerts that I was present at was on Thursday, 25th of October, with my favourite singer Atif Aslam as the lead singer.
There were so many aspects of the concert that I thoroughly enjoyed, but one thing that particularly stood out for me was the food and drink stalls arranged for the attendees. The food served was fresh and economical, and the drinks were refreshingly cold, making them perfect for beating the heat.
However, there are some suggestions I would like to give to improve upcoming summer's concerts. The seating arrangement for families should be separate from the other individuals so it does not get crowded for young children. To add on, kindly make sure that the singers start the concert at the mentioned time rather than being late for hours.
Yours faithfully,
Palwasha Farooq

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you identify the concert as Atif Aslam’s performance on 25 October, explain that you enjoyed the food and drink stalls, and suggest separate family seating and punctual starts. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. However, the explanation of enjoyment focuses on one feature, while the task asks why you enjoyed the concert; adding a comment on the music, atmosphere, or performance would develop this point more fully. The improvement suggestions are useful but could also be explained in terms of how they would benefit attendees. The date is given, though the reference to a summer concert on 25 October may need clarification. Overall, the task is covered, but some ideas are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: purpose, concert attended, reasons for enjoyment, suggestions, and an appropriate closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Although,” “However,” and “To add on” show an effort to connect ideas. This organisation is effective, though some transitions feel formulaic, and “To add on” is less natural in a formal letter. The sentence beginning “There were so many aspects” also promises several reasons but develops only the food and drink stalls, which slightly weakens progression. To make the organisation more polished, use transitions that express the precise relationship between points and ensure each topic sentence matches the details that follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including “thoroughly enjoyed,” “particularly stood out,” “economical,” and “refreshingly cold.” These choices communicate your positive response clearly, and the tone is generally suitable for a letter to the council. There are some less natural or imprecise expressions, however: “attend few of them” needs an article, while “upcoming summer’s concerts” and “the other individuals” are awkward choices for the intended meanings. “Lead singer” may also be inaccurate if Atif Aslam was the featured performer rather than part of a group. Aim for more precise collocations and formal phrasing, such as “future summer concerts” and “other concertgoers.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the concessive opening “Although there were numerous concerts arranged” and the participial phrase “making them perfect for beating the heat.” Most sentences are easy to understand, and errors do not prevent communication. Some grammatical slips remain: “I could only attend few of them” requires “a few,” and “the other individuals so it does not get crowded” has an unclear pronoun reference and an awkward clause connection. The phrase “upcoming summer’s concerts” also has an incorrect possessive construction. To improve, check articles and noun phrases, and make sure pronouns clearly refer to the intended people or arrangements. Greater consistency in sentence construction would strengthen control.
