Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a resident of this county, which is under your administration. I am writing to give my feedback on one of the concert you arranged.
In this letter, I am particularly talking about the concert you arranged last week in the central park of our locality. after a very long time.
We enjoyed it a lot because many famous folk singers from different cities performed in this concert. In traditional songs, they told the stories of our national heroes. These folk songs helped me a lot to teach my kids the history of our area.
However, I have some suggestions for the next concert. There was a big issue of parking for those who drove from other cities. They had to park their cars very far and walk about 10 minutes. The parking of nearby shoping centre is mostly empty at night time and perhaps we can utilise that.
Thanks for arranging such an entertaining event!
Yours faithfully,
Muhammad Javed

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the folk concert in the central park, explain that you enjoyed hearing singers tell stories of national heroes, and suggest using the nearby shopping-centre parking. The personal detail about teaching your children local history makes the reason for enjoying the event relevant and specific. Your improvement idea is practical, but it is the least developed part: explain how the council could arrange permission or provide directions and signage for concertgoers. The opening also says “last week” without naming the concert more precisely, though the type of performance is clear. Overall, the purpose and your position remain clear, with the main opportunity being to extend the suggestion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from its purpose to the concert experience, then to a suggestion and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps separate the positive feedback from the proposed improvement, and “However” signals the change in focus effectively. Some links are less smooth: “In this letter, I am particularly talking about…” repeats the purpose already stated, while “after a very long time” is left as a fragment after the sentence about the concert. The reference to “that” in “perhaps we can utilise that” is understandable but could be made more explicit by naming the parking area again. More direct transitions and clearer sentence connections would make the progression feel more consistently controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for this letter, including relevant expressions such as “folk singers,” “national heroes,” “parking,” and “entertaining event.” These choices communicate the subject and your feedback clearly, and “utilise” shows an attempt at a more formal alternative to “use.” Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however: “one of the concert” should be “one of the concerts,” and “the parking of nearby shoping centre” is awkwardly phrased. There is also a spelling error in “shoping.” Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “parking at the nearby shopping centre” and avoid repeating “concert you arranged.” This would improve fluency and accuracy without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the explanation that the songs “helped me a lot to teach my kids the history of our area” and the sentence describing where visitors had to park. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. In “one of the concert,” the plural form is needed; “after a very long time” is an incomplete sentence and begins with a lowercase letter after a full stop. The phrase “In traditional songs, they told the stories…” also has an unclear grammatical reference for “they.” Review sentence boundaries, articles and plural forms, and connect the fragment to the preceding sentence. These adjustments would make your varied structures more consistently accurate.
