Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this latter regarding local band concert, which was organized by our local council.

There are many reasons that I enjoyed a lot in this event. First of all, I would like to explain that this was the greatest band concert, which I have ever attend during my life. Because, the famous singer was singing my favourite songs , who is one of my favorite artist. Moreover, it was in the heart of the city, which is known as a open heart park. The place is really beautiful so people enjoyed band with outsanding view.

Unfortunatly, there was thing, which you can improve for the next time. It was a peak summer and sun rayes caused sun burn to many individuals. To solve this, I would like to request that either you can make it in indoor or you can pospond to the end of september. When weather is not soo hot.

Thank you for your understanding and time. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best Wishies,

Aazan Solanki.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three requested points: you identify the event as a local band concert, explain that you enjoyed hearing a famous singer perform favourite songs in a scenic park, and suggest moving the event indoors or postponing it until late September because of the heat. These ideas are relevant and your purpose is clear. However, the concert is not identified specifically, and the reasons for enjoying it are only briefly explained; for example, you could describe what made the performance memorable. The improvement suggestions are useful, but the letter would be more complete if you explained how an indoor venue or later date would benefit attendees and offered a practical alternative such as shade or water stations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, a paragraph about the concert, a paragraph on a problem and possible improvements, and a polite closing. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all” and “Moreover” help guide the reader, and the shift to “Unfortunatly” signals the change from praise to criticism. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some ability to connect ideas. To make progression smoother and more controlled, avoid placing several ideas in one long sentence and use clearer links between the singer, the songs, and the park setting. Paragraph breaks and punctuation around the transitions would also help the reader follow the letter without interruption.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “famous singer,” “favourite songs,” “peak summer,” and “sun burn,” and you attempt more descriptive language with “heart of the city” and “outstanding view.” However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural phrases are noticeable, such as “latter” for “letter,” “pospond,” and “open heart park.” Some choices also make the meaning less clear, including “enjoyed band” and “sun rayes.” These errors show that your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main message, but control of spelling, word forms, and collocations is not yet consistent. Choose familiar expressions accurately, then add less common vocabulary where it fits naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including relative clauses (“which was organized by our local council”) and a conditional suggestion (“either you can make it in indoor or you can pospond…”). The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in these longer structures. For example, “which I have ever attend” needs a corrected verb form, and “Because” is incorrectly used to begin a sentence fragment. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries in “a open heart park. The place…” and “When weather is not soo hot.” Work on complete sentences, verb forms, and article use, and check punctuation between clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
