Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to let you know about a live concert performed by Kinjal Dave. I appreciate this free concert and the opportunity to give feedback.

I saw an advertisement for concerts featuring Gujarati music, folk, rock, and pop. In addition, my colleague and I attended a live performance by Gujarati singer Kinjal Dave on 25th October at Thomson Park. As everyone knows, she is very popular in the world for her voice. The reason I enjoyed it a lot is that I belong to a Gujarati family; also, there was a huge crowd there. Moreover, I liked the seating arrangements, so we could rest. Because of the various food stalls, we tried different dishes.

I would like to offer advice on next concerts. If you organize more screens, so individuals can enjoy more. We struggled with parking vehicles. Consequently, I recommend providing more space for the parking area in the future.

I appreciate you allowing us to attend concerts without charge. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Almas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify Kinjal Dave’s concert at Thomson Park, explain your enjoyment through your Gujarati background, the seating and food stalls, and suggest adding screens and expanding parking. These details make the response relevant and give the council useful feedback. The enjoyment section is more fully supported than the improvement suggestions: “If you organize more screens, so individuals can enjoy more” does not clearly explain how screens would help, and the parking suggestion could specify the problem or a practical solution. The letter’s purpose and polite tone are clear. To strengthen the response further, develop each recommendation with a brief reason and make the screen proposal more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph describing the concert, a paragraph of suggestions, and a courteous closing. The sequence within the main paragraph is generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Moreover,” and “Consequently” help connect details. However, some connections feel mechanical or do not express the intended relationship clearly. For example, “If you organize more screens, so individuals can enjoy more” combines a conditional with “so” awkwardly, while “As everyone knows” interrupts the progression from the concert details to your personal reason for enjoying it. Use fewer, more precise linkers and make the relationship between each suggestion and its benefit explicit to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the letter and includes relevant terms such as “live performance,” “seating arrangements,” “food stalls,” and “parking area.” These choices help communicate the event and your suggestions. You also attempt some less common or more formal expressions, including “consideration” and “organize,” though a few phrases are imprecise or unnatural. “She is very popular in the world for her voice” is an awkward way to describe her reputation, and “enjoy more” does not specify what attendees would enjoy. “Concerts featuring Gujarati music, folk, rock, and pop” could also be expressed more naturally. Aim for precise collocations and avoid broad phrases when a specific meaning is intended.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including “Because of the various food stalls, we tried different dishes” and “I would like to offer advice on next concerts.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the letter’s basic sentence structure is generally controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in the recommendation sentence: “If you organize more screens, so individuals can enjoy more” has an incomplete or incorrectly joined conditional structure. “Advice on next concerts” also needs a determiner, such as “the next concerts” or “next summer’s concerts.” Review conditional clauses, articles, and sentence connections, then check that each sentence has a complete and logically linked structure.
