Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to share my experience and provide feedback regarding an event attended last Saturday. I am a resident of Belleville and went to Zuwick's Park concert that represented 90's POP culture.
To begin with, I personally loved the concert as different generations joined together to celebrate a specific era. The crowd was fully energetic having youngsters, adults and older people at one place.
Furthermore, the theme of the concert was so refreshing. The youngsters get the chance to dressed-up like their parents, and the aged people get the opportunity again to relive those moments.
On a good note, I would really like you to consider some areas for improvement in future events. Firstly, sitting arrangement should be increased considering the population of the city. Additionally, more food vendors must be invited to present Canadian food.
I would really appreciate if you would consider these things. I look forward for better concerts ahead.
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the 1990s pop concert at Zuwick’s Park, explain that different generations enjoyed the shared theme, and suggest more seating and food vendors. The reasons for enjoying it are relevant and supported by details about young people dressing up and older attendees reliving the era. Your suggestions are also practical, although they could be developed further—for example, explain how extra seating would improve comfort or what kinds of Canadian food you would like offered. The purpose and overall tone are clear throughout. To strengthen the response further, make the feedback more specific and balanced, perhaps adding one observation about the concert’s organisation or facilities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from its purpose and the concert attended, to reasons for enjoyment, and then to suggestions. Paragraphing supports this structure, and signposts such as “Furthermore” and “Additionally” help readers follow the points. The closing also fits the purpose of writing to the council. Some linking is slightly formulaic: “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “On a good note” announce each move rather than connecting the ideas more naturally. The relationship between the concert’s intergenerational appeal and the suggestions could also be made more explicit. For a more polished progression, group related details closely and use a wider range of natural transitions, while retaining the clear paragraph structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and vary your wording, including “different generations,” “relive those moments,” and “areas for improvement.” These choices convey the concert’s appeal and your recommendations. However, some expressions are imprecise or do not collocate naturally, such as “represented 90’s POP culture,” “the crowd was fully energetic,” and “sitting arrangement should be increased.” “Aged people” is also less suitable in this context. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate, conventional phrases for event feedback, and check word forms and collocations when using less familiar expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the sentence explaining that different generations joined together and the sentence describing the concert’s theme. Meaning remains clear, and several sentences are controlled. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “The youngsters get the chance to dressed-up,” the verb pattern should be “get the chance to dress up”; “the aged people get the opportunity again” also shifts into the present tense after describing a past event. In “I would really appreciate if you would consider,” the clause needs “it” after “appreciate.” Review verb patterns, tense consistency, and clause structure. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make the letter smoother and more assured.
