Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for organizing the concerts it was a great success. I am writing to provide you with feedback of concerts in our local park which was organised by the local council.

Although, there were a series of concert which were free, I managed to attend one of them due to my busy work schedule this week. Another issue was the venue, which was a bit cramped compared to the size of audience and lighting was dull.

I attended one amazing concert which debuted local artists from our neighborhood, it was great idea to promote local artist by giving them a chance. Furthermore, I was impressed by the range of instruments used by the artist. Overall, all the preformances were great, but I was particulary impressed by the cords played by the guitarist.

However, I would have loved to attent all of the concert. So, I would suggest if these concerts could be spread out over couple of weeks. Concerts could be performed over weekend to keep it easier for people with busy schedules to attend. If the venue could be changed to town hall which is well lit and bigger?

Looking forward to many more great concerts in future. Please let me know if I can help with anything.

Your faithfully,

Swetta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover all three requested points: you identify the concert as one featuring local artists, explain that you enjoyed the performers and the guitarist’s playing, and suggest spreading events over several weeks and using a larger, better-lit venue. The positive response to promoting neighbourhood artists is relevant and gives the council useful feedback. This meets the task well, with some evidence of the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the explanation of enjoyment is brief, and the venue comments in the second paragraph are not clearly connected to your later suggestion to use the town hall. Develop these points by explaining how the proposed changes would improve the audience’s experience and by giving a specific detail about the performance you attended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, discussion of the event, suggestions, and a closing. Paragraphing generally separates the main topics, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “However” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the cramped venue and dull lighting appear before the concert description, while the town-hall suggestion comes later, so related information is separated. The opening also repeats the idea that the council organised the concerts. Some transitions, including “Although” at the start of a sentence, do not clearly connect the ideas that follow. Group the concert experience together, then present the improvements in a focused paragraph, using references and connectors that make each relationship clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “local artists,” “range of instruments,” “venue,” and “busy schedules.” These choices communicate the main points, and phrases such as “promote local artist” show an attempt to express the value of the event beyond simply saying it was enjoyable. There are, however, several inaccurate or awkward choices that reduce precision: “feedback of concerts” is less natural than “feedback on the concerts,” and “cords played by the guitarist” does not clearly convey the intended musical detail. Spelling errors such as “preformances,” “particulary,” and “attent” also affect accuracy. Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that fit the context, such as “guitar chords” or “guitar playing.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the relative clause “which was a bit cramped” and the conditional suggestion “If the venue could be changed to town hall…”. The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. For example, “Thank you for organizing the concerts it was a great success” joins two independent clauses without suitable punctuation, while “a series of concert” needs a plural noun. The final venue question is an incomplete conditional construction, and “over couple of weeks” is missing an article. There are also agreement and article issues in phrases such as “local artist.” Practise completing conditional sentences and checking articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries; these corrections would make your varied structures more controlled.
