Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter to give you feedback about a concert organised by you last week, though you organised many this summer, but I am talking about the one held on 25th June.
The concert was awesome I must say and I enjoyed it a lot because it was based on classical music which is one of my favorite. Live music is always one of my weaknessess and that was literally so heart touching.
At the end of the concert, there was arrangement of refreshment for all of the guests. I also got the chance to take photographs with my favorite musicians.Though, everything was perfect but I have some suggestions regarding seating arrangements, there must be some more seating area for some elderly people who can not stand for a long time. Secondly, there must be a better arrangement of light, so that we could take good photographs. If next year concert could be arrange in a hall instead of a park, then it will be a great idea I think.
I hope you will consider my suggestions.
Yours faithfully,
Munazzah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the concert as the classical music event on 25 June, explain that you enjoyed the live music and refreshments, and suggest more seating for older guests and better lighting. The letter also maintains a suitable purpose and closes politely. These relevant details and explanations make the response effective. To strengthen it further, develop the suggestions more precisely: for example, explain where extra seating could be placed or how lighting could be improved. The idea of moving the event to a hall is clear, but its benefits are not explained and it may conflict with the council’s park-concert format. Overall, the task is covered with a clear message, though some ideas could be extended more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from its purpose and the concert attended to reasons for enjoyment, suggestions, and a closing. Paragraphing helps separate the main stages, and expressions such as “Secondly” make the list of recommendations easy to follow. This gives the response a coherent overall arrangement. However, some links are awkward or mechanical: “though you organised many this summer, but” combines two contrasting linkers, while “Though, everything was perfect but” repeats the same problem. The long second paragraph also shifts from positive feedback to several suggestions without a clear break. Use one linker at a time and consider separating the recommendations into their own paragraph to make progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and your reactions, including “classical music,” “refreshment,” “seating arrangements,” and “elderly people.” The reader can understand the main points, but the range is limited and several choices are informal, imprecise, or incorrectly formed for a formal letter. For instance, “awesome,” “one of my weaknessess,” and “heart touching” do not sound natural in this context; “arrangement of light” is also an awkward collocation. Spelling errors such as “weaknessess” and “favorite” reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, appropriately formal expressions and check spelling and common word partnerships before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning remains understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in complex sentences and punctuation. “Hope you are doing well, I am writing…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma, and “though you organised many this summer, but…” uses an incorrect contrast structure. There are also errors in forms such as “could be arrange” and “next year concert,” where the verb form and noun construction need correction. Missing spaces after full stops, as in “musicians.Though,” further affect accuracy. Practise building complex sentences with one clear clause pattern, and proofread for verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries.
