Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing about a series of free concerts organised during this summer in the local park and I manage to attend one concert which was extremely amazing. Overall, my experience was enjoyable.
I was able to attend only one concert at the gage park by the famous singer Satinder Sartaj. He is the well-known personality in Punjab.
During his concert, he sang variety of traditional songs with his melidious voice. I always adore music concerts so that's why I was the part of this particular concert.
I enjoyed this concert because of the music which I always listen while driving or performing some house hold chores. I had never been a part of live concerts because of high prices of tickets, this one was free of cost so I came here to create a memorable moment in my life. There were various food stalls offering food from different regions during the concert which was really delicious.
I would like to suggest some improvements for the next summer's concert. Firstly, seating arrangement should be extended so that everyone can have a chair to sit and enjoy. Secondly, food counters should be in the different area far from the stage. Lastly, please arrange extra garbage bins for the cleanliness of the park.
Thanks for your time and consideration, I hope next concert should be well managed with proper security.
Yours faithfully,
Navpreet Dhillon.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the concert as Satinder Sartaj’s performance at Gage Park, explain your enjoyment through the music, the free entry and the food stalls, and offer three practical suggestions. The reasons are relevant and supported with personal detail, such as having previously avoided concerts because of ticket prices. Your recommendations about seating, food-counter placement and rubbish bins are also easy to understand. To develop the response further, explain the impact of the problems more precisely—for example, who lacked seating or how food counters affected the audience—and make the closing request for better security more specific. Overall, the letter fulfils its purpose and maintains a clear, appropriate message to the council.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to the concert attended, to reasons for enjoying it, and finally to suggestions. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, while “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “Lastly” make the recommendations easy to track. The opening and closing also suit a formal letter. Some links between ideas are less smooth: “I always adore music concerts so that's why…” repeats the reason for attending, and the transition from the music to the food stalls could be more deliberate. The final security comment is added after the list without explaining how it relates to the earlier suggestions. Use linking phrases selectively and connect each point to its effect on visitors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “traditional songs,” “food stalls,” “seating arrangement” and “garbage bins.” These choices make the concert experience and your recommendations clear. You also attempt more expressive language, such as “create a memorable moment,” but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “extremely amazing,” “melidious voice,” “I was the part,” and “free of cost.” There are also spelling errors, including “gage” and “melidious.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for straightforward, accurate phrasing—for example, “I particularly enjoyed the singer’s melodious voice”—and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “I enjoyed this concert because…” and a purpose clause in “so that everyone can have a chair.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In the opening, “I manage to attend” should use past tense (“managed”), and “I was the part” needs a different construction (“I was part of”). The sentence beginning “I had never been a part…” is awkwardly joined to the explanation about the concert being free; separating the ideas would improve control. There are also article and number issues in “sang variety” and “next concert.” Practise consistent past-tense narration and check articles and sentence boundaries.
