Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir/madam,

I am writting this letter to you regarding the experience of one of the concerts at the local park.

Firstly, i want to reflect my opinion on the live music concert on local folk songs of my culture. It was a enthusiastic, energetic or realistic event of my life

The prime reason behind the scenario that why i liked this event is becouse this live concert reminds me about my childhood memories. At this concert, my family was with me they felt extremely over the moon seeing me enjoying local cultural music festival.

To commence with few suggestion that i want to put forward for the betterment of the upcoming seasonal concert is that for accurate visual of the stage there should be installation of bright lights is neccesary, this will not only make the audience connected to the artists but also results in flourishment of the companies who put efforts to make their concerts lively.

Overall, it was a well spent weekend at the cultural music festival of the locality, i really enjoyed it .I shall be pleased that you gave me an opportunity to give my feedback on this particular concert.

yours Sincerely,

Navdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you identify the concert as one featuring local folk songs, explain that it brought back childhood memories and that your family enjoyed seeing your reaction, and suggest installing brighter stage lighting. These details make the letter relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your experience. However, the enjoyment is explained only briefly, and the suggestion is not fully developed: clarify how lighting would improve visibility and the audience’s experience. The reference to companies benefiting from the concerts is not clearly connected to your main suggestion. A more specific example of what worked well, alongside a practical improvement such as seating or facilities, would make the feedback more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable letter structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for your experience and suggestion, and a closing. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “The prime reason,” and “Overall” help signal the stages of your message. The overall progression is understandable, but some transitions feel mechanical, and the long suggestion sentence combines several ideas without clear links. For example, the connection between brighter lights, audience engagement, and companies’ success is difficult to follow. Paragraphing could also more clearly separate your explanation of enjoyment from your recommendations. Use simpler links between related points and make each paragraph focus on one purpose to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “cultural music festival,” “childhood memories,” and “betterment,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this context, such as “reflect my opinion,” “realistic event,” and “accurate visual of the stage.” Some expressions, including “over the moon,” are conversational and do not fit the otherwise formal letter consistently. Spelling errors such as “writting,” “becouse,” and “neccesary” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; straightforward phrases such as “share my feedback” and “clear view of the stage” would communicate your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the clause beginning “The prime reason…” and the structure “this will not only… but also…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. For example, “It was a enthusiastic” has an article error, while “my family was with me they felt” joins two clauses without suitable punctuation or a linking word. The sentence about installing lights also has an unclear structure, and capitalisation is inconsistent in “i” and “yours.” Use full stops or conjunctions to separate ideas, and check articles, sentence boundaries, and capital letters when proofreading.
