Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am articulating this letter to share my reviews about the free concerts held in our local park. I have only attend the singing concert that was organised on last Monday. This concert invite people from different cultures as famous singers from different countries were there to perform different genre of music.

I really appericiate the management of this concert who takes cares of the people. I was excitied to listen the voice of Shreya Ghoshal that is popular Bollywood singer of India. I felt like my dream comes true after listening her live on the stage.

Overall it was great experience to attend this concert but I want to suggest that there should be different days scheduled for different perfomances of the singers.

In am very greatful for your act of kindness.

Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the concert as a singing performance held on Monday, explain your enjoyment through Shreya Ghoshal’s live performance, and offer a suggestion about scheduling different performances on separate days. These points are relevant, but the feedback is only partly developed: the reason for enjoying the event is mainly personal, and the scheduling suggestion is not explained or supported. The response also falls 9 words short of the required 150-word minimum, so it has limited space to address the council’s request fully. Add specific details about the concert’s atmosphere or organisation, and explain how your proposed schedule would improve the experience for attendees.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the purpose, describes the concert and your enjoyment, then gives a suggestion and closes politely. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these functions, and the progression is easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control beyond it. However, links between ideas are quite basic, and the final suggestion arrives abruptly after “Overall it was great experience.” The closing thanks the council but does not connect clearly to the feedback. Use a linking phrase to introduce the recommendation and add a sentence explaining its benefit; this would make the progression more deliberate and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “free concerts,” “different cultures,” “genre of music,” and “performances,” and the reader can understand your main points. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “appericiate,” “excited,” “grateful,” and “reviews” where “feedback” would be more natural. Some phrases are also awkward, such as “articulating this letter” and “takes cares of the people.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they show limited control of collocation and spelling. Aim for straightforward, natural expressions and check spelling carefully, especially in formal correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the sentence explaining that singers from different countries performed different genres. The main message remains understandable, but errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “I have only attend,” “This concert invite people,” “who takes cares,” and “I felt like my dream comes true.” There are also missing articles in “it was great experience” and “that is popular Bollywood singer.” Practise keeping verb tense consistent when describing a past event, and check subject–verb agreement and article use. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your ideas clearer.
