Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the topic and give a relevant overall view, saying the opportunity is “helpful for both employees and companies.” You also begin to explain employee benefits, including learning skills, gaining work experience, meeting people and learning about other cultures. However, the response does not explain these points or provide examples, and it gives no advantages for companies, so a major part of the question is unanswered. The response is also substantially below the required length, which leaves the ideas very limited and under-developed. To improve, address both questions in separate, developed paragraphs: explain how overseas experience benefits employees and how it can help companies, such as by building international expertise or improving communication with overseas clients.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic, understandable order: it introduces the topic and then starts discussing benefits for employees. “Firstly” signals the move into the first point, and the ideas about skills, experience and cultural learning are relevant to that paragraph. However, the writing stops before it develops a complete structure: there is no paragraph on company advantages or concluding statement. Connections between the listed benefits are also limited, and the second paragraph reads as a sequence of points rather than a developed explanation. Build a clear introduction, one paragraph for each part of the question, and a conclusion. Use linking phrases to show how each benefit leads to a result, rather than relying mainly on a list.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a small set of relevant words and phrases, including “valuable work experience,” “different cultures” and “international companies,” which make the topic clear. However, the vocabulary is basic and the range is narrow, with repeated general terms such as “good,” “benefits” and “chance.” There are also spelling errors that affect the accuracy of the writing: “chnace,” “countryb” and “oppotunity.” These are lexical issues rather than grammar errors. Aim to use more precise language to explain the effects of working abroad, such as “develop professional expertise” or “gain cross-cultural awareness.” Proofreading carefully for spelling will also help your ideas appear clearer and more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses simple sentence patterns, such as “They can learn new skills and gain valuable work experience.” These are generally understandable, and the coordinated verbs show a basic ability to combine related ideas. However, there is little variety in sentence structure and no developed complex sentences to explain causes or results. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent: “they” begins a sentence with a lowercase letter, and spaces appear before commas and full stops. Practise combining ideas with structures such as “By working abroad, employees can…, which may…” and “This benefits companies because…”. Check sentence openings, commas and full stops during proofreading so that the basic structures are presented consistently.
