Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years many multinational companies have provided opportunities for their employees to dedicate their time staying and working in another country. There are several reasons of this new development. I strongly believe this is a good change for the growth of the company.

One of the major advantage of gaining an experience outside the home country is to know about the diverse culture and international business tactics. This is because an employee working in a domestic environment, is not only limiting his or her knowledge, but also see a very little chance to grow. For example, many organizations fund international business trips to help their employees familiarize themselves with the local environment and establish professional relationships with colleagues from other countries. This could boost the morale of an employee as well as they see potential development.

Another benefit is, companies can attract the best talents around the globe by competing internationally. Furthermore, these companies can be benefitted by employees who are familiar with global strategies. For instance, there are few organizations who take part in global meetings sending their best representatives to give a presentation on know how of the company.

I believe, it's a two way process from the company as well as the employees. Although, companies have to invest in their best talents to another country, they also see positive outcome after new knowledge is introduced eventually.

In conclusion, multinational companies must allocate a capital expenditure to employees who have capabilities to present them internationally and bring new strategies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: benefits for employees and advantages for companies. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'international business tactics' is mentioned but not fully explained or exemplified with depth. The argument regarding company benefits is also slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on 'strategies' without exploring other potential advantages like cross-border innovation or operational efficiency. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments lack the necessary detail to reach a higher band. To improve, ensure each main point is supported by a specific, well-explained example or a more detailed logical chain.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the sentence 'This is because an employee working in a domestic environment, is not only limiting his or her knowledge, but also see a very little chance to grow', where the connection to the previous point could be more explicit.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'multinational companies', 'professional relationships', and 'capital expenditure'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'reasons of this new development' (should be 'reasons for') and 'take part in global meetings sending their best representatives' (which is slightly awkward). The range is sufficient but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Expanding the use of collocations and more precise academic terminology would enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'One of the major advantage' (should be 'advantages'), 'see a very little chance' (should be 'sees'), and 'companies can be benefitted' (should be 'benefit'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some unnecessary commas, such as in 'an employee working in a domestic environment, is not only...'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive versus active voice, as these are recurring issues throughout the text.
