Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both the benefits for employees and the advantages for companies. The writer presents a clear position throughout the essay. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as when the student provides the example of Chinese IT companies sending staff to the USA. However, some ideas remain slightly repetitive or under-developed, aligning best with a Band 6.5 or Band 7.0 descriptor. For instance, the discussion on work ethics is introduced but could have been elaborated with more precise examples. Overall, the prompt requirements are adequately fulfilled with a logical flow of ideas from the employee perspective to the corporate perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is generally coherent with a clear overall arrangement. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs addressing employees and companies, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical, such as the incomplete concluding sentence. Logical organization is maintained throughout, ensuring that progression is clear. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 6.0 to 6.5 range, demonstrating sufficient organisational control.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary era', 'cultural values', and 'international level skills'. However, there are notable lexical and collocational errors throughout the response, such as 'worker life' instead of 'workers' lives', 'companies can able to' (a grammatical clash), and 'companies circle' instead of 'business network' or 'global reach'. While these vocabulary inaccuracies and awkward word choices are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The lexical range is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning, placing it firmly at a Band 6.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly involving verb patterns and articles, such as 'companies can able to expand', 'individual get chance', and 'send their some staff members'. Punctuation and sentence boundary issues also appear, culminating in an incomplete sentence structure in the final conclusion paragraph. While these errors occur regularly, the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is rarely completely impeded. This reflects the characteristics of a Band 5.5 or 6.0 response, where control over complex structures is still inconsistent.
