Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why the opportunity is good for employees and the advantages for companies. Ideas such as increasing productivity, cultural understanding, and career development are introduced. However, the development of these ideas is limited, leading to somewhat repetitive explanations, such as mentioning communication skills multiple times. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement, containing only 221 words instead of the required 250. This negative impact on task completion prevents the score from reaching higher bands. To improve, the student needs to expand further on each point with concrete examples and ensure the full word length is achieved.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into four paragraphs, including an introduction and a conclusion. There is a basic attempt to sequence ideas logically, moving from employee benefits to company advantages and overall conclusions. However, logical progression is often hindered by abrupt transitions and faulty cohesive devices, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters or awkward connectors like 'furthermore, As when people...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is frequently mechanical or unclear, with repetitive referencing. To improve, the student should use a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices and ensure each paragraph has a clear thematic focus supported by logical linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it lacks the range and precision expected at higher bands. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'digitalised era', 'monotonous routine', and 'job satisfaction', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling and word choice errors, including 'employyes', 'perticular', 'inhence', 'geys', 'rellationship', and 'buisness'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their repertoire of less common lexical items, improve spelling accuracy, and pay closer attention to natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'As when people break their monotonous routine and meet new people, they try to think out of the box'. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization (e.g., lowercase 'it' at the start of sentences), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'employee comes up', 'companies recieve'), and article usage. The presence of these frequent errors, along with awkward phrasing, causes some difficulty for the reader and prevents the score from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction rules, punctuation, and proofreading to eliminate avoidable slips.
