Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by explaining both why the opportunity is good for employees and what advantages it brings to companies. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and a specific example regarding an Indian Microsoft employee moving to the US. However, while the main points are covered, some ideas could be extended further for higher development. For instance, the discussion on employee growth touches on personality development and promotions, but the depth of support remains somewhat generalized. Nevertheless, all prompt requirements are met satisfactorily, corresponding to a Band 7 performance under the Task Achievement descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay presents a clear logical organization and progression throughout. It is divided into an introduction, two distinct body paragraphs tackling the separate prompt questions, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively to connect ideas, such as 'While it is beneficial', 'The primary reason', and 'Similarly, the companies also benefit'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring each paragraph has a distinct central topic. Although some referencing and transitions are straightforward rather than sophisticated, the progression of thought is easy to follow, making this a solid Band 7 performance for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'multi-national', 'overseas exposure', 'adaptability', and 'broadens his horizons'. There are occasional minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'inspire other workers' instead of 'inspires' (subject-verb agreement aside, the phrasing is slightly basic), spelling errors like 'eposure' instead of 'exposure', and slight awkwardness in 'Indian Microsoft office when gets placement in the the US'. Despite these occasional flaws, the vocabulary is adequate to convey meaning with some precision and flexibility, fitting the Band 6.5 or solid 6 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over dependent clauses and relative structures, such as 'While it is beneficial for employees as it offers valuable overseas exposure to them...' and 'When employees return from international placements...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as 'provide their employees a chance' (missing preposition 'to'), 'at professional and personal level' (missing article 'a'), and the clunky clause 'an employee from Indian Microsoft office when gets placement in the the US'. Punctuation is generally fine, and these errors rarely impede communication, placing the grammatical performance securely at Band 6.5.
