Student answer (Band 7.0)

In recent times, many multi-national companies provide their employees with a chance to live and work in another country for some time. While it offers valuable overseas exposure to employees, it also promotes overall productivity of the companies.

For employees, these opportunities offer significant exposure that contributes to their growth and development both at a professional and personal level. It enriches their knowledge about different working methods and cultural expectations, which enhances their adaptability and cultural awareness. This international experience makes them more competitive when applying for for future positions. For example, an Indian Microsoft employee, during his placement in the US branch, learns new professional skills that broaden his horizons. Thus, living and working overseas is an excellent opportunity for employees.

Similarly, the companies can also benefit significantly from this development. When employees return from international placements and apply the acquired knowledge and experience to their original work place, it boosts their work performance. They may have leaned about new markets, customer preferences and more efficient ways of doing business, which contibutes to the business productivity. Moreover, international assignments can strengthen cooperation between different branches of the same company. For instance, a GM company manager who has worked in both the Canadian and European branches may be able to help these offices work more efficiently. Furthermore, it also inspires other employees to work harder and qualify for similar international opportunities.

In conclusion, living and working overseas is highly beneficial for employees since it assists in their personality and career development. Similarly, the companies get significant benefits from this trend in terms of improved performances and greater work productivity. Therefore, I believe this trend is not only beneficial for the employees but also for the companies that encourage this practice.
