Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both the benefits of international secondments for employees and the advantages for companies. The writer presents a clear position throughout the essay. Ideas regarding employee benefits are developed through points on exploring different places, experiencing new cultures, and improving mental health by relieving stress. Similarly, advantages for companies are supported with discussions on international investment, networking, and enhanced corporate reputation and recruitment appeal. While some ideas could be slightly more deeply extended with more specific real-world examples, the coverage of both aspects of the prompt is solid and relevant, earning a strong Band 6.5 to Band 7 descriptor profile, ultimately fitting a Band 6.5 due to slight generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate employee benefits from company advantages. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the text, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or repetitive, such as the repetitive use of 'companies' and 'people' as cohesive subjects. Paragraph transitions are somewhat mechanical, but the overall progression of ideas remains clear. These features align well with the Band 6 descriptors for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'phenomenon', 'advantageous', and 'reputation' (implied by popularity). However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('helpfull', 'relive' instead of relieve, 'comanies', 'empoyees', 'diffrent') and occasional awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'business companies' and 'invest in another countries'. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication, which is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'people would like to work with companies which provide better employment opportunities'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement or article issues like 'another countries' instead of 'other countries', 'a foreign countries', and 'company's growth'. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear. This balance of mixed structures and manageable errors places the response firmly at Band 6.
