Student answer (Band 7.0)

In today’s world, various overseas organizations give a chance to their employees to live and work in another country for a little period. I really like this idea because it is not beneficial for employee but also for the organization. This essay will discuss the advantages that both company and their staff can get from this opportunity.

To commence with, there are numerous benefits for employees to live and work in another country. The first and foremost benefit is that employee will get an international work experience which will be very helpful for their personal and professional growth. Moreover, employees may be exposed to new technology, management styles and business practices, which can improve their skills and increase their chances of promotion in future. In addition to that, living abroad helps people to adapt different culture and traditions which increase their confidence, communication skills and give a sense of independence. For example, an employee of Indian company who spends a year working in its Canadian branch may learn how Canadian business manage teamwork and customer relationship while also becoming more comfortable communicating with people from different backgrounds.

This development is also advantageous for companies. One major benefit is that employee who have international work experience may bring new ideas and strategies to improve business and solve problems which directly help company to raise their business demand. Furthermore, sending employees in overseas branches can strengthen cooperation between offices and provide better understanding of the company’s overall objectives. It can also be helpful for company to develop future manager who is flexible to live and work in international countries to support the company. For instance, a multinational technology company send a promising employee to its overseas branch to manage project. After returning home, this employee can use the knowledge gained abroad to improve the similar projects in the company’s domestic operation.

In conclusion, allowing employees to live and work in another country is beneficial for both an individual and organizations. Employees can develop professional skills, confidence and culture awareness, while companies can new ideas and strategies to strengthen the business on global market. Therefore, this practice is likely to remain an important strategy for multinational businesses

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both why the opportunity is beneficial for employees and the advantages it brings to companies. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as the Indian company branch example in the second body paragraph and the multinational technology company example in the third. While some arguments could be explored in greater depth to reach the highest band, the coverage and development are strong and entirely appropriate for a Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay displays clear logical organisation and a natural progression throughout. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, starting with a well-defined introduction, moving through distinct body paragraphs for employees and companies, and ending with a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', 'In addition to that', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader, although referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive ('this employee', 'this development'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, supporting overall coherence well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for flexibility and precision, attempting less common lexical items such as 'international work experience', 'management styles', 'multinational technology company', and 'global market'. There are occasional word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as writing 'for a little period' instead of 'for a brief period' or 'raise their business demand' instead of 'boost business demand', alongside minor phrasing errors like 'adapt different culture' instead of 'adapt to different cultures'. However, these errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly in Band 6.5 or 7.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-style constructions successfully. Frequent error-free sentences are produced, particularly in the body paragraphs. However, there are some persistent grammatical errors, such as singular/plural inconsistencies ('employee who have' instead of 'employees who have', 'company can new ideas' missing a verb like 'provide'), and missing articles ('an Indian company' instead of 'an Indian company', 'in international countries' instead of 'internationally'). Despite these errors, punctuation and grammar are under good control and rarely impede communication.
