Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining both why the opportunity is good for employees and what advantages it brings to companies. The student maintains a clear position throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, such as when the writer discusses gaining new working methods, technologies, management skills, and language acquisition, alongside commercial advantages like marketing expansion and bilingual mediation. Examples are provided, although some of the supporting details tend to be slightly repetitive in phrasing. Nevertheless, the main tasks are fully covered, meeting the requirements of a Band 7 performance where all parts are addressed with a clear position and supported ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout. Paragraphing is used appropriately to divide the introduction, body paragraphs focusing on employees and companies respectively, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'As a result', 'On top of that', and 'Firstly' are utilised to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though minor slips like 'campanies' and punctuation errors around transitional phrases slightly disrupt the flow. Overall, the logical structure and clear progression satisfy the criteria for a Band 6.5 to 7.0, fitting comfortably into a solid Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'multinational companies', 'professional experience', 'cultural values', and 'international assignment'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'campanies' instead of 'companies', 'poeple', 'billingual', and awkward phrasing like 'convey the messgaes'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands. The writer shows an ability to discuss business and employment topics effectively, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'employees who return from the international assignment gain new knowledge...' However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, including comma splices ('I believe, that this opportunity'), article omissions ('in different work environment'), preposition misuse ('spend years in working'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('a employee who is working... it may become'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and communication is rarely impeded. This balance of complex structures alongside recurring grammatical inaccuracies reflects the Band 6 descriptor.
