In recent years, many staff members of large international companies get the opportunity to spend a period of time living and working in foreign countries which is offered by their own companies. It is beneficial for both employees and the employers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by explaining why the opportunity is good for employees and what advantages it brings to companies. The student maintains a clear position throughout the essay. Ideas are presented and supported, such as how employees learn interpersonal skills and how companies improve employee retention and bring in new ideas. However, some arguments lack deep development, such as the claim that returning employees reduce conflicts in the organisation, which is slightly underdeveloped and lacks concrete examples. Overall, the prompt is adequately covered, aligning well with the expectations for a Band 6.0 performance under Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different main ideas, such as employee benefits in the second paragraph, staff retention in the third, and company innovation in the fourth. Cohesive devices like 'When people start working', 'One of the most significant benefits', and 'Another significant benefit' help guide the reader through the text. However, referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'such company' instead of 'such a company'), and some cohesive links feel somewhat mechanical. Progression is generally clear, justifying a solid Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'interpersonal skills', 'goodwill of company', and 'win-win situation'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and collocation issues, such as 'learning anf working' (spelling slip), 'different culture' (singular instead of plural), 'improve decision making and be confident' (awkward parallelism), and 'employers welcoming new ideas' (tense inconsistency). Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, making Band 6.0 an appropriate score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conditional clauses ('When people come to know...') and relative clauses relatively well. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions, such as 'staff members... get the opportunity... which is offered' (wordy/clunky), 'help them in learning' (unnecessary preposition), 'improve decision making' (missing plural/article integration), and 'bring new ideas in the corporation' (preposition error). While these errors occasionally distract the reader, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammar firmly at a Band 6.0 level.
