Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing why international secondments are beneficial for employees and the resulting advantages for companies. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack sufficient support. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement, containing only 246 words instead of the required 250, which impacts the overall fullness of the task response. While the student attempts to present a position and includes an example regarding an IT specialist, the narrative becomes distracted by personal anecdotes and tragedy rather than focusing strictly on the economic and professional arguments expected in an IELTS General Training Task 2. Consequently, the score reflects limited development and a minor penalisation for failing to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay demonstrates some basic organisation, opening with an introductory statement and concluding with a brief summary phrase. However, the overall progression is heavily disrupted by poor paragraphing, massive run-on blocks, and a lack of logical transitions between sentences. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the sudden shift introduced by 'Moreover' and 'For example'. The personal story about the IT specialist is weakly connected to the main thesis, and referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader to decipher pronoun links. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct arguments, which significantly hinders the structural flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, struggling to meet the demands of the task. While the student attempts some less common terms like 'enhanc', 'sourounding', and 'achivement', these are marred by persistent spelling errors. Words are frequently misused, such as 'carrer carrer' and 'copmuter', which points to a limited and unstable lexical range. Although the general meaning can sometimes be extracted, the sheer frequency of lexical errors and poor word choice places this response firmly in the lower band categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text relies heavily on simple sentence forms, and attempts at complex structures frequently result in faulty syntax, run-on sentences, and severe punctuation errors (e.g., missing capitalisation at the start of sentences, stray spaces before punctuation marks). There are numerous agreement and tense issues, such as 'employee will improve', 'company director decide', and 'company send to abroad'. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning in multiple places.
