IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Nowadays many large international companies offer their staff the opportunity to spend a period of time living and working in another country.
Why might this opportunity be good for employees?
What advantages does this development have for companies?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Employees working in many multinational organisations are offered the opportunity to live and work overseas for a certain period of time. This practice not only benefits the staff but also offers a plethora of advantages to the companies. It is a great opportunity for the employees to learn and adapt to different environments, while companies can use it as a means to expand and flourish their businesses.
Commencing with the most salient reasons, a company's talent is its most valuable asset. Organisations want to invest in the training and education of their employees; thus, they may send them abroad to work and acquire knowledge from experts in their respective fields. Living and working among people from diverse backgrounds also enables employees to learn to respect and tolerate different cultures. Furthermore, exposure to new challenges can improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Therefore, overseas assignments can provide employees with valuable opportunities to excel in their careers. For example, Unilever Pakistan offers selected employees the opportunity to pursue master's degrees at prestigious universities around the world on fully funded scholarships. Such initiatives provide employees with valuable knowledge and skills that can enhance their professional capabilities.
Moreover, companies recognise the value of the courses and training programmes they arrange for their employees. This approach can benefit organisations in the long run. When talented staff members receive specialised training in a particular field, they can assume leadership roles and implement the knowledge and strategies they have acquired in their own workplaces. Rather than hiring external trainers to educate other employees, companies can utilise the expertise of their existing workforce. Consequently, this approach can contribute significantly to both organisational growth and employees' career development.
To recapitulate, overseas employment opportunities can be highly beneficial for both employees and multinational organisations. While workers can acquire new skills, cultural awareness and international experience, companies can develop a more capable workforce and use the knowledge gained overseas to strengthen their businesses.

The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, showcasing frequent error-free sentences. The candidate demonstrates solid control of grammar and punctuation, utilising dependent clauses and participial phrases correctly, as seen in 'Living and working among people from diverse backgrounds also enables employees...' and 'Rather than hiring external trainers to educate other employees, companies can utilise...'. Errors are very rare, and those that do occur do not impede communication in any way. The grammatical range is fully adequate for a strong performance.
