Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world, many big multinational companies offer the opportunity to spend and work a period of time working abroad. These kinds of chances help employees personally and professionally. Moreover, there are lots of merits of this development for companies. This essay will discuss both views with relevant examples.

To begin with, working in another country is highly beneficial for employees because it enables them to work with different people with various languages, cultures, and traditions. For example, my company sent me to Canada for 6 months on a training program. First, it helped me to understand the working culture of a multinational company and its work methods, which helped to improve my team's efficiency and productivity back home. As a result, it helps employees to develop skills such as communication and critical thinking. Moreover, employees can meet various people while they are on their visit abroad, which helps them to expand their professional network. Therefore, it can open up various work opportunities for them.

This sort of development also produces many benefits for companies. First and foremost, smaller companies can work with big multinational companies, which helps them to learn new technologies and developments. As a result, it may help them to improve their company's performance. For example, the KPMG India office sends many employees to different countries to learn about new technology and work systems. As a result, it helps to improve their employees' efficiency. What is more, it also helps companies to sign MOUs for new orders and helps them to build strong business relationships. It is very vital nowadays as competition is at its peak; maintaining physical relations with your clients helps in growing business faster.

To sum up, living and working in another country helps employees help them in their overall growth, such as learning, knowledge, communication, problem solving. Whereas, it helps companies to learn from the best and improve themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task fully, discussing both the benefits for employees and the advantages for companies. The student maintains a clear position throughout the essay and supports arguments with relevant examples, such as mentioning being sent to Canada for six months and citing the KPMG India office. Ideas are well developed and extended appropriately. For instance, the discussion on how international exposure builds communication skills and expands professional networks shows clear insight. There are no notable omissions, and the task prompt is thoroughly fulfilled, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with a standard introduction, followed by body paragraphs dedicated to employees and companies respectively, and concluding smoothly. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'For example', 'As a result', and 'First and foremost' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text, although some cohesive links like 'help them help them' in the conclusion show occasional awkwardness. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the overall progression is easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 7 rating.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary suitable for the task, incorporating appropriate phrases such as 'multinational companies', 'professional network', 'efficiency and productivity', and 'business relationships'. There are successful attempts to use less common vocabulary, though some minor word choice and collocation issues appear, such as 'spend and work a period of time' in the introduction and 'physical relations with your clients' instead of professional or face-to-face relationships. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, and vocabulary does not impede communication, placing the response comfortably within the Band 6 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. Examples such as 'First, it helped me to understand the working culture of a multinational company and its work methods, which helped to improve my team's efficiency' illustrate a good variety of structures. However, there are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as the redundant 'helps employees help them in their overall growth' in the concluding paragraph. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the majority of sentences are clear and well-structured, reflecting the characteristics of Band 6.
