Nowadays many large international companies offer their staff the opportunity to spend a period of time living and working in another country.

What advantages does this development have for companies?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Currently a number of organizations provide opportunities for their staff to work and live aboard for a specific period. This practice provides benefits for both employee and employer. One of the main benefits is that employees get the opportunity to gain international experience and earn high salary. On the other hand, companies get trained staff and experienced staff.
To begin with, working aboard allows employees to gain international experience. This is because they are working with industry experts. Also, this allows them to get a solid understanding about the current market trends. Additionally, workers can earn high wage because they are getting their salaries in foreign currency. For example, in Sri Lanka, people who work in US companies earn their salaries in US dollars, while others get their salaries in Sri Lankan rupees.
When it comes to the organizations, they get well-trained staff because employees working with experts gain more knowledge and also more understanding of the international market. Hence, this practice opens new opportunities for the firms. For instance, tech companies in Sri Lanka provide opportunities for their employees to work and live in USA for a one-year period. This practice allows them to attract more projects because of their trained staff.
In conclusion, today many foreign companies send their employees to work and live in other countries. This generates benefits for both the employee and the company. Employees can get foreign work experience and higher income while companies get trained and experienced staff. This is a win-win situation for both parties.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both why the opportunity is good for employees and what advantages it brings to companies. The writer's position is clear throughout, starting with an introductory statement that sets up the discussion. Ideas are extended with relevant supporting details, such as mentioning international experience, working with industry experts, and attracting new projects. For example, the student notes that workers can earn high wages in foreign currency and that tech companies in Sri Lanka can attract more projects because of their trained staff. While the development of ideas could be slightly more fully extended to reach a higher band, all parts are covered adequately and relevantly, satisfying the criteria for a Band 6.5 or 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized logically with a clear overall progression. It features a standard four-paragraph structure comprising an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt respectively, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Also', 'Additionally', 'When it comes to the organizations', 'Hence', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their positioning. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, ensuring the progression of ideas is coherent and easy to follow throughout the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'organizations', 'industry experts', 'current market trends', and 'foreign currency'. However, there is a recurring spelling error throughout the text, specifically writing 'aboard' instead of 'abroad' ('working aboard', 'working aboard allows'). Additionally, there are minor awkward collocations or phrasing choices, such as 'earn high salary' (missing an article or plural form) and 'trained staff and experienced staff' which is somewhat repetitive. Despite these slips, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly, aligning with Band 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses ('This is because they are working with industry experts', 'people who work in US companies earn their salaries in US dollars'). There are several grammatical errors present, such as missing articles ('earn high salary' instead of 'earn a high salary', 'earn high wage' instead of 'earn high wages') and preposition or pluralization slips. However, many sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally sound. The errors do not impede communication, meaning the text sits comfortably within the Band 6.0 criteria for grammatical control.
