In recent times, several large multinational companies provide their staff members with the opportunity to spend some time and get work experience in another country. There are several reasons related to this phenomenon. This essay will discuss why working in another country is beneficial for the employee and how this type of development has a positive impact on companies.

There are several reasons why working and living in a different country is beneficial for staff. The first benefit is the development of critical-thinking skills. They can learn new techniques, cultural practices and a completely different way of working. This can stimulate their thinking process and enhance their problem-solving skills. Another reason is improved communication skills. A person who gets this opportunity has the chance to speak to local people. This type of interaction develops their ability to communicate with others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both why the opportunity is good for employees and what advantages it brings to companies. The student maintains a clear focus throughout, identifying employee benefits such as critical-thinking skills and improved communication, as well as company benefits like increased revenue and an enhanced work culture. Ideas are generally well-supported with relevant explanations, though they tend to remain somewhat general rather than being fully extended with specific examples from personal knowledge or experience. For instance, the discussion on improving communication could benefit from a concrete illustration. Overall, the task is successfully covered, placing it firmly at a band 6.5 or 7.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs dedicated to employee benefits and company advantages respectively, and ending with a clear conclusion. Cohesive devices are used adequately to guide the reader, such as 'The first benefit', 'Another reason', and 'Moreover'. However, some transitions and referencing feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure (e.g., repeatedly using 'There are several reasons' or 'The first positive side'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, maintaining overall coherence despite minor mechanical phrasing in cohesive ties.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating less common items such as 'multinational companies', 'phenomenon', 'critical-thinking skills', and 'generate more revenue'. While the range is sufficient for precision, some word choices are slightly unnatural or lack sophisticated collocation, such as 'positive side' instead of 'advantage' or 'benefit', and 'production' used where 'output' or 'operations' might be more idiomatic. Spelling and word choice errors are rare and do not impede communication, allowing the response to comfortably secure a band 6.0 leaning towards 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over sentence structures such as 'A person who gets this opportunity has the chance to speak to local people' and 'This way employees can apply new ideas and techniques in the production that they learnt in another country.' There are some minor grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as missing articles ('in the production') and slight tense inconsistencies ('that they learnt' after present tense 'can apply'). However, these errors are infrequent and rarely impede communication, with many sentences remaining grammatically sound and clear.
