Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the task by discussing the benefits for employees and companies. However, the student failed to meet the minimum word count requirement, coming in at 222 words instead of the required 250, which leads to a penalty under Task Achievement. Furthermore, the second body paragraph cuts off mid-sentence, leaving the explanation of the company's perspective incomplete. While ideas such as higher remuneration and retaining trained staff are introduced, they lack full development and extension due to the truncation and overall brevity of the essay. To improve, ensure you fully develop all points with relevant examples and strictly monitor your word count to satisfy the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'In addition' and 'One of the major benefits', but referencing and linking are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in phrases like 'companies itself which will be discussed'. Paragraphing is initiated properly, but the abrupt ending of the essay disrupts the logical flow and progression. To enhance coherence, ensure that every paragraph has a complete conclusion and that cohesive devices connect ideas smoothly without awkward phrasing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a minimally adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common collocations like 'interconnected world', 'higher remuneration', and 'upgraded life-style'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'companies sponsor work visas to their employees' instead of 'for their employees', and spelling/capitalisation slips like 'thier' and 'for example' starting with a lowercase letter. Vocabulary is occasionally repetitive, and precision is lacking in places. To achieve a higher band, focus on precise word choice, accurate collocations, and eliminating spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses ('where different markets work together') and conditional ideas. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including preposition misuse ('demand for hike' instead of 'demand a hike'), subject-verb agreement issues ('companies ... is' or 'companies itself'), and incorrect punctuation. The most significant issue is that the essay terminates abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('so they teach to'), which directly impacts grammatical completeness. To improve, focus on sentence control, accurate prepositional use, and ensuring all sentences are fully completed.
