Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both why international work opportunities benefit employees and what advantages they offer to companies. The student attempts to develop ideas, such as employees building international experience, bringing new ideas back, and helping companies understand foreign customers. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth, leaning on general statements rather than fully extended arguments or concrete personal examples. For instance, mentioning Amazon is relevant, but the explanation remains underdeveloped. According to the band descriptors, the response covers all parts of the task though some areas remain under-developed, aligning closely with a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is an overall logical arrangement to the text, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a clear conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though formatting spacing is sometimes irregular. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'First and formost', 'Moreover', and 'In Conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are frequently faulty or mechanical. For example, sentences often run together without proper punctuation or conjunctions (e.g., 'country for some period of time.Which hold...'). Additionally, pronoun referencing can be vague. These issues place the response firmly in Band 5.0, where organisation is present but cohesive devices and transitions are noticeably inaccurate or inadequate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'international experience', 'foreign customers', and 'beneficial'. There are numerous spelling, word choice, and word boundary errors throughout the text, such as 'formost' instead of 'foremost', 'chamce' instead of 'chance', 'diffrent' instead of 'different', and 'accrdingly' instead of 'accordingly'. These vocabulary and spelling errors do not completely impede communication, but they are noticeable and cause some difficulty for the reader. This performance reflects the criteria for Band 5.0, displaying a limited vocabulary range with noticeable errors in spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I believe that people who get this opportunity, employees may understand foreign customers...' However, control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent punctuation errors, missing spaces after commas and periods, and comma splices (e.g., 'opportunity for companies When that person...'). Grammatical structures are often faulty when attempting complex sentences, leading to frequent errors that cause strain for the reader. This matches the Band 5 descriptor where a limited range of structures is used and frequent errors occur, although meaning can still generally be deciphered.
