Student answer (Band 7.5)
Nowadays, many multinational companies give their employees the opportunity to live and work in another country for a certain period. This development can provide significant benefits to employees, while companies can also gain valuable advantages from having staff with international experience.
For employees, working in another country can be an excellent opportunity to develop both personally and professionally. When people live in a different cultural environment, they have to communicate with individuals who may have different customs, attitudes and ways of working. As a result, they can improve their communication skills and become more adaptable. In addition, employees can gain knowledge of international business practices, which may help them progress in their careers. For example, an accountant who works in a company's overseas branch may learn new financial procedures and gain experience dealing with international clients.
Companies can also benefit considerably from sending their employees abroad. Firstly, employees who understand different cultures and markets can help their companies operate more effectively in international markets. They may be able to communicate better with overseas customers and understand their expectations. Secondly, employees can bring new knowledge and ideas back to their home offices when they return. For instance, an employee who spends two years working in a foreign branch may learn an efficient method of managing customers, which can later be introduced in the company's other offices.
In conclusion, working abroad can help employees gain valuable skills, experience and cultural awareness. At the same time, companies can benefit from employees who have a better understanding of international markets and can share their knowledge with colleagues.

The arguments flow logically from personal professional growth to corporate operational effectiveness. The response meets all task requirements thoroughly, achieving a Band 8 level for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0
Ideas are logically sequenced and the essay features a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is used effectively and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct central topic, such as employee benefits in the second paragraph and company advantages in the third. Cohesive devices are managed well without feeling mechanical, using appropriate transitional phrases like 'For employees,' 'Companies can also benefit,' and 'Firstly.' Referencing is clear throughout the text, ensuring the reader can effortlessly follow the arguments. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 8 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
The writer demonstrates a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary appropriate for the task. Less common lexical items are used with some awareness of style and collocation, such as 'multinational companies,' 'international business practices,' and 'operational effectiveness.' Word choice is generally precise and natural, contributing to effective communication. While the vocabulary is not overly sophisticated or rare enough to merit a Band 8 or 9, it easily satisfies the criteria for Band 7, displaying good control over everyday and topic-specific terminology with virtually no distracting errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and participial clauses like 'When people live in a different cultural environment, they have to communicate with individuals who may have different customs.' There is a high proportion of error-free sentences, and the grammar and punctuation are handled with good control. Minor errors are practically absent, and complex structures are used without distorting meaning. This demonstrates the strong command of grammar expected at Band 7.5 to 8.0.
