Student answer (Band 7.0)

Needless to say, numerous multinational organizations provide their employees with opportunities to live and work in different countries. I believe that these opportunities have a positive impact on employees as a whole, particularly by contributing to their professional development and personal growth.

Having the opportunity to work for an international organization can significantly boost an individual's career prospects. For instance, when employees live and work abroad, they are able to explore additional career opportunities within the same sector, which can accelerate their professional growth. Moreover, working alongside colleagues from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds enables employees to acquire new skills, knowledge, and working techniques. They can subsequently apply these skills in their own organizations, thereby contributing to greater efficiency and productivity in the workplace.

Furthermore, spending time in another country can help employees become more productive while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. To elaborate, being exposed to different cultures and traditions allows individuals to broaden their perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of various aspects of life, such as food, lifestyles, customs, and social practices. These experiences can provide a refreshing break from the monotony of everyday life in their home country. As a result, employees may return to work feeling refreshed, motivated, and enthusiastic, which can positively influence their attitude and performance in the workplace.

In conclusion, providing employees with opportunities to live and work abroad can be highly beneficial for both individuals and organizations. Such experiences can enhance employees' career prospects, broaden their perspectives, and improve their motivation and productivity. Therefore, in today's increasingly competitive global environment, international work opportunities can contribute significantly to both employees' professional development and the overall success of organization

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task prompt. You clearly discuss why international work opportunities can be beneficial for employees, such as through career advancement and skill acquisition. You also explore the advantages for companies, including enhanced efficiency, productivity, and a motivated workforce. Your position is well-maintained throughout the essay, and your ideas are logically extended with relevant examples and explanations. Although the prompt asks about employee benefits and company advantages, you focus heavily on the employee side in body paragraphs two and three, while the company advantages are woven in rather implicitly until the conclusion. Nevertheless, all parts are covered sufficiently, and the ideas are well-developed. Therefore, this performance aligns closely with the Band 7 requirements for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You make good use of introductory and concluding paragraphs, and your body paragraphs are distinctly separated to cover different facets of the topic. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to guide the reader through your arguments, such as 'For instance', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and effectively, with each paragraph centred around a clear central topic. Referencing throughout the text is clear and tracking is maintained well. While some of the cohesive links are standard rather than highly flexible, the overall structure flows smoothly from start to finish without noticeable awkwardness. This reflects the criteria for a Band 7 in Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary that allows for some flexibility and precision in discussing international employment. Phrases like 'multinational organizations', 'professional development', 'career prospects', and 'work-life balance' show that you can use less common lexical items with a good awareness of collocation and style. There is also effective use of descriptive phrases like 'diverse professional and cultural backgrounds' and 'monotony of everyday life'. While minor vocabulary choices could be elevated slightly to display even greater sophistication, your word choice is generally natural and accurate. There are no spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 7 criteria for Lexical Resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You show a strong command of grammatical structures, successfully using a mix of complex and simple sentence forms. Your writing features frequent error-free sentences, alongside complex structures such as 'when employees live and work abroad, they are able to explore...' and 'working alongside colleagues from diverse... enables employees to acquire...'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are handled well throughout. There are occasional minor slips, such as the missing plural noun in the final sentence ('success of organization'), but these do not impede communication in any way and represent non-systematic errors. Your control over grammar and sentence patterns is solid, justifying a Band 7 score for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
