Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the modern era, several large organisations allow employees to work and spend time in abroad. This broadens the horizons for their employees as they get global exposure, which is beneficial for their career. Moreover, it also helps companies to reduce attrition rate and boosts company financials.

Working in another country is not only a dream of an employee but also provides them a chance to interact with distinct teams. Despite connecting over video calls, a physical interaction is required to build a connection. Working globally allows them to meet with leaderships and clients, which builds trust. For instance, a manager coming from the US can interact with the employees of India and fosters an environment where everyone can put their thoughts forward. Therefore, it brings different team's perspectives that creates a single mindset.

In addition, it motivates employees to work on new challenges rather than doing mundane work. The global interaction gives them new opportunities where they can firsthand experience the ground problems and designs innovative solution, which skyrockets company's overall growth. For instance, an automative engineer visiting a manufacturing unit of another country can understand the requirements quickly and bring effective ideas forward. Ultimately, employees are given the opportunity to upskill themselves, which allows them to retain in the company, otherwise employees whose growth is stagnated start looking for other opportunities.

In conclusion, global exposure brings new challenges, which incentivises employees to work harder. Thereby, contributing to company's growth as emloyees work longer in the companies and bring innovative products as global minds work together.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both the benefits for employees, such as gaining global exposure and building trust, and the advantages for companies, including reducing the attrition rate and boosting financials. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which places the response firmly within the expected band. For instance, the point about reducing the attrition rate is introduced in the first paragraph but is somewhat under-developed in the body of the essay, where the focus shifts more heavily towards innovation and problem-solving. To move to a higher level, the writer should ensure that every main idea introduced is given equal weight and extended with deeper, more comprehensive supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from employee benefits to company advantages. Paragraphing is used logically, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct central theme, such as team interaction or skill development. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, transitional phrases like 'Despite connecting over video calls' are used awkwardly, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as when pronouns like 'them' are used without immediately clear antecedents. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that referencing is consistently precise throughout the text to create a smoother, more seamless flow between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'attrition rate', 'mundane work', and 'upskill'. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that prevent a higher score. Phrases like 'in abroad' (instead of 'abroad'), 'ground problems' (instead of 'on-the-ground problems' or 'practical issues'), and 'automative engineer' (instead of 'automotive engineer') show that control of word forms and collocations is inconsistent. Furthermore, there are minor spelling slips such as 'emloyees'. To reach the next level, the student should focus on refining collocations, ensuring accurate prepositions are tied to specific lexical items, and expanding the use of precise, natural terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct varied structures such as relative clauses and conditional ideas, as seen in 'employees whose growth is stagnated start looking for other opportunities.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues like 'designs innovative solution' and awkward phrasing like 'allows them to retain in the company' instead of 'allows them to remain with the company'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To progress further, the writer must aim for greater control over complex sentence patterns, ensure strict accuracy in verb forms and singular/plural agreements, and eliminate minor structural slips.
