Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the prompt by discussing both the benefits for employees and the advantages for companies, placing the essay at this level. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed throughout the response. For instance, the point regarding improving employee abilities and dealing with foreign clients is introduced but lacks sufficient explanation or specific real-world examples. The position of the writer is visible, but the reasoning is somewhat repetitive, such as repeatedly mentioning reputation and clients without expanding into varied perspectives or deeper analysis. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to extend each main idea with clearer supporting details and concrete examples rather than relying on generalised statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organisation, including a basic introduction and concluding remarks, but lacks a clear overall progression of ideas from start to finish. Paragraphing is attempted, though the boundaries are sometimes blurred by mechanical or awkward transitions, such as starting paragraphs with phrases like 'first in foremost' or 'secondly'. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently inaccurate, repetitive, or inadequate for guiding the reader smoothly through the argument. Referencing is also unclear in places, such as vague pronoun use like 'they might get clients from as for as.' To improve, the writer must ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one and that cohesive links are employed more naturally and accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the basic message of the essay. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'reputation' and 'circumstances', but these attempts are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'abrod', 'clint's', and 'groth'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. Furthermore, phrasing tends to be repetitive throughout the body paragraphs. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to build a broader range of vocabulary, use less common terms with greater precision and correct spelling, and pay closer attention to natural word combinations and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms like 'if an employee getting knowledge', punctuation errors, and problems with prepositions and pluralisation. The majority of sentences contain structural inaccuracies, which impede the overall clarity of the message. To achieve a higher level of grammatical performance, the writer must work on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, using correct verb tenses consistently, and reducing the frequency of structural errors in complex sentences.
