Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both why the opportunity is good for employees and what advantages it brings to companies, thus fulfilling the prompt requirements. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the benefits for employees regarding career growth and learning are discussed with reasonable extension, whereas the points on daily life management and daily hustle are somewhat repetitive and lack deeper elaboration. Similarly, the company advantages touch on outsourcing and client connections, but the arguments remain somewhat general and could benefit from more specific, concrete examples to push the response to a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the text, such as 'One main reason', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always clear. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To expand it' feel unnatural, and pronoun referencing in sentences such as 'though foreign companies can get good experienced people in low rate' creates ambiguity regarding who 'they' and 'these people' refer to. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs requires smoother transitions to achieve a fully clear progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common vocabulary items such as 'career growth', 'outsourcing', and 'work life balance'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation. Examples include 'earning good amount of money' (missing article), 'hussle' (spelling error), 'purchasing good' (incorrect word form), 'make money' instead of 'generate revenue', and 'in low rate' instead of 'at a low rate'. These errors reflect a limited lexical range, though they generally do not completely impede communication. To improve, the writer needs to refine word choices and ensure correct collocations and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures such as conditional clauses and relative clauses (e.g., 'if employee get chance to work overseas, they should take it'). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. These include missing plural markers or articles (e.g., 'if employee', 'good experienced people'), subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'compnies are also in benefits'), and awkward prepositional usage within grammatical patterns. While communication is rarely completely halted, the persistence of these grammatical inaccuracies across various structures prevents the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control.
