Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays many large international companies offer their staff the opportunity to spend a period of time living and working in another country. This concept is important for their employees to boost them physically and mentally. Most of international companies have outsourced employees who are more comfortable to work in their country as they have their families. In order to have peace and comfort, they prefer to work remotely either in their country or in foreign with families.

For example, most of Pakistani employee working in the international companies are more comfortable to work remotely in their country rather than to work in foreign country, so company gives them free hand for making their choices. This example reflects the benefit or advantage for the staff to work in another country. Due to this leniency, employees do show more interest in their work and enhances the communication skills of employees which are beneficial for the company as well.

With respect to company 's view, this opportunity gives more benefit to the company, as they know more about the international trends going on and the opportunities in other country. Because, employee from another country brings the opportunity for company to grow in foreign. This is beneficial for the company as well.

To conclude, development is necessary for both the companies and employees, as it is a tradeoff between them and beneficial for both parties. This is the reason many large international companies offer their staff the opportunity to spend a period of time living and working in another country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

First, it is important to note that 43 words copied from the task prompt were not counted, and the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 213 words instead of 250. Regarding the content, the response addresses the task only partially. While both parts of the prompt are touched upon—why the opportunity is good for employees and what advantages it brings to companies—the ideas are quite limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of Pakistani employees working remotely lacks clear extension and logical support. The writer attempts to present a position, but the overall development remains superficial and repetitive, preventing the response from reaching a higher level of achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization present, with the text divided into distinct paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are used rather inadequately and sometimes inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences and paragraphs like 'With respect to company 's view'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, leaving the reader to guess the precise links between sentences. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure a smoother, more logical flow of ideas from one paragraph to the next and employ a wider, more accurate range of cohesive markers without mechanical repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, such as 'international companies', 'remote', and 'communication skills'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, for example, writing 'in foreign' instead of 'abroad' or 'in a foreign country', and 'free hand for making their choices'. Attempts to use less common lexical items are either awkward or inaccurate. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocations appropriate for academic or general writing tasks.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors. Examples of structural and grammatical issues include subject-verb agreement errors like 'Most of international companies has outsourced employees' or 'most of Pakistani employee working', alongside missing articles and awkward preposition use. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty and hesitation for the reader. To improve this criterion, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of error-free sentence forms, paying closer attention to basic grammatical patterns, plurals, and verb forms.
