Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the benefits for employees and the advantages for companies. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the points about employees gaining skills and travelling are introduced, but the supporting examples remain somewhat general, such as mentioning better software or visiting museums without deeper elaboration. Similarly, the company advantages regarding competition and expansion are noted but lack fully extended exploration. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to expand all main ideas with more detailed explanations and fully realised examples rather than brief mentions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that addresses the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal logical progression, such as 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the dangling phrase 'Therefore, it a good opportunity' missing a subject. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but achieving a higher band would require smoother, more natural transitions between sentences and ideas, alongside more varied and flexible referencing to ensure the logical flow is entirely seamless from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'upscale their product' and 'mutual benefits'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes that occasionally disrupt the flow, such as 'workg', 'adavantanges', 'competetion', 'acess', and 'enpand'. The phrase 'company might be using better softwares' also shows a non-standard plural form. While communication is not severely impeded, the presence of these errors and occasional imprecise collocations keeps the lexical score at this level. To improve, the student must focus on accurate word formation, spelling, and using precise academic collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied syntactic structures. There are, however, several grammatical errors and omissions throughout the text, such as missing auxiliary verbs or articles ('I believe it a great initiative', 'company might be using', 'The another point', 'it is has positive impacts'). Punctuation and verb form errors also appear, such as 'employees workg' and 'They can enjoyed'. These errors rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the overall meaning, but they do recur across the text. To reach the next band, the writer needs to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over articles, verb complements, and subject-verb agreement.
