Student answer (Band 5.0)
In today's day and age, it is common for international companies to allow their workers to work from a different country. This liberty to choose where they can live and work for a short period of time can bring about several positive outcomes.
Employees who live in a different country to their families have the opportunity to fly and stay with them for some time. This gives the employee the peace of mind that they are in close proximity to their loved ones. Additionally, it is advantageous for those who want to explore different cultural backgrounds and live in an unfimilar country. Living in a different geographical location can expose you to diverse mindsets and norms which can also help to broaden your horizon.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, primarily because the length requirement is not met, as the text contains only 124 words against the mandatory 250-word minimum. While the student touches upon the employee benefits by discussing proximity to family and cultural exploration, the second part of the prompt regarding company advantages is completely omitted. Ideas are limited and under-developed due to the truncated nature of the response, preventing any thorough exploration of the topic. To achieve a higher band, the writer must fully address all parts of the prompt, including both employee and employer perspectives, and write at least the minimum required word count with fully extended and supported ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident in the structure, beginning with a brief introduction followed by a body paragraph focusing on employee benefits. However, because the text is severely curtailed and lacks a second body paragraph and conclusion, there is no clear overall progression across the piece. Cohesive devices are used in a basic or mechanical manner, such as 'Additionally' and 'which', but referencing is somewhat repetitive and overall paragraphing is incomplete. To improve cohesion, the writer should ensure logical development of ideas across multiple well-defined paragraphs, utilizing a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through a complete essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items such as 'proximity', 'diverse mindsets', and 'geographical location'. However, there is a spelling error with the word 'unfimilar' (unfamiliar), and some word choices feel slightly conversational or repetitive. The lexical range is limited overall. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, demonstrating better control over less common lexical items, sophisticated collocations, and completely accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text displays a limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of straightforward complex sentences with occasional errors. For instance, the phrase 'different country to their families' could be more precisely rendered as 'different country from their families', and the use of the pronoun 'you' in an academic context is slightly informal. Frequent errors are avoided, and the simple structures present are mostly clear, but the overall variety and control are restricted. To progress, the writer should employ a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with a high proportion of error-free sentences and maintain an appropriate academic or formal register throughout.
