Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often assumed that the multinational companies offers a lot of inititaives for its staff just to keep them on their toes. For this purpose, companies usually offers a lot of recreational activities such as sending staff to foreign countries to spend holidays and have quality time.

One way to do that is to send staff on working holidays. This concept, as appears from the title, is when an individual or few individuals of any given company are being sent overseas, primarily on comany`s expense.

Mostly staff on working holdidays have to spend half of their time doing their requiste job whereas the remaining is usually spent doing personal activities such as shopping, sightseeing and exploring the area. Some comapnies allow taking families on such types of holidays but most comapnies avoid the same due to expenses involved.

On the other hand, numerous companies pefers to offer full paid holidays to its employees to be spent in foreign countries. This not only help the companies to keep up its reputation in terms of staff care and nurture their full potential but in this way, comapnies also often tries to get their hands on much needed insights and prospects to develop business strategies to review possible business market if it decide to begin its business overseas.

Overall, this trend is extremely good in terms of developing and nurturing the full potential of employees. It also provide the comapnies with the opportunity to retain the employees for a longer period as such sort of steps keep the employees more loyal and honest, not only towrads the work but towads the companies as well.

Another aspect of this entire matter is that giving staff with a chance to spend their holidays oversea is sometimes tend to be more cost effective. For instance, announcing such activity for staff member who will work harder will induce a spirit of positive competition amongst the staff with the one performing well will relish the success.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both questions, and it identifies plausible benefits: overseas experience may help employees develop, while companies may gain market insights and improve staff loyalty. However, the task is only partially addressed because the discussion repeatedly treats the opportunity as a holiday, rather than explaining the benefits of living and working in another country. The claim that staff spend time shopping and sightseeing, for example, does not explain how working abroad benefits them professionally or personally. Company advantages are more relevant, particularly gaining insights before entering a foreign market, but this point needs a concrete example and fuller explanation. Make the distinction between a work assignment and a holiday clear, then develop one or two relevant benefits for each group.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some paragraphing, and the response moves from describing the arrangement to discussing possible benefits and then offering a conclusion. However, the overall progression is unclear: the opening and middle paragraphs focus on working holidays, while the later discussion shifts to fully paid holidays and staff rewards. These ideas are not clearly connected to the question about living and working abroad. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Overall” are used, but they do not always signal a clear contrast or conclusion. The final paragraph introduces cost-effectiveness and competition without showing how these relate to the earlier points. Organise the response around the two task questions, and use each paragraph to develop one connected main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “multinational companies,” “business strategies,” “market,” and “employees,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the intended meaning less clear. For example, “keep them on their toes” does not fit the intended idea of supporting staff, and “get their hands on insights” is informal and imprecise. There are also repeated spelling errors, including “inititaives,” “comapnies,” and “towads.” Aim for precise, natural expressions such as “international assignment,” “gain local market knowledge,” and “employee development,” and proofread carefully for spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including clauses beginning “whereas” and “if,” but complex structures are often faulty and errors occur frequently. Subject–verb agreement is a recurring problem: “companies usually offers,” “numerous companies pefers,” and “It also provide” should use plural agreement. Other examples include “This not only help” and “giving staff with a chance … is sometimes tend,” where the verb patterns are not controlled. Some sentences also contain unclear or incomplete constructions, such as “the remaining is usually spent” and “with the one performing well will relish the success.” These errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate agreement and verb patterns, and check each sentence for a clear subject and main verb.
