Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent times, more international organisations give their employees the opportunity to work and live in other countries. This essay will explore why this development is good for both staff and companies.

One of the reasons why it is important for staff to experience living in other nations is because it allows them experience other working culture. For instance, my sister worked at a big finance project management firm here in Nigeria and she was sent to join their branch office in London for a period of 3 months. She said they respect employees break time and did not make them work during these hours as opposed to her main branch. In addition, it helps workers gain additional skills. For example, most of the plastic surgeons I know were sent by their hospitals to other countries to develop their skills and they came back better, even with skills that were not taught at their primary centre.

While this development is beneficial for employees, it also has advantages for companies because the workers who are sent abroad to learn new skills come back with knowledge that improve their company. Another benefit is it could help save cost for the organisation. When employers send staff abroad to learn new things, the employees could in turn pass the knowledge to the younger generation that work in the company instead of sending them to other nations to learn those skills.

To conclude, large international companies now send their workers to spend some time living and working in another country in other for them to experience a different working environment and acquire new knowledge that could be used to develop the business and teach the newer staff in the organisation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear focus on benefits for employees and companies. The employee section is supported with relevant examples: your sister’s experience in London illustrates exposure to different workplace practices, while the surgeons’ training shows how overseas work can build skills. You also explain that returning employees can share knowledge and reduce the need to send additional staff abroad. These points are relevant and extended, although the company benefits are less fully developed than the employee benefits. For example, the cost-saving point would be stronger with a clearer explanation of how knowledge-sharing reduces expenses or improves performance. Overall, the ideas answer the task clearly, with some scope for more precise development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear four-part structure: introduction, employee benefits, company benefits, and conclusion. The progression from staff advantages to organisational advantages is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For instance,” “In addition,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. The examples are generally placed beside the points they support. However, some linking is a little mechanical, and the company paragraph moves quickly from improved knowledge to cost savings without fully explaining the connection. The conclusion also largely repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the two distinct benefits. To strengthen progression, use clearer links between each claim and its consequence, and make the final paragraph synthesise the main points rather than restate them.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss international work, training, and business benefits, including “acquire new knowledge,” “working environment,” and “develop their skills.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and the examples give the language a relevant context. Some wording is repetitive or imprecise, however: “other countries” and “other nations” recur, while “big finance project management firm” and “younger generation” are not especially precise in this context. There are also collocation and word-form issues, such as “experience other working culture” and “save cost.” Aim for more natural combinations and vary repeated terms—for example, refer to overseas assignments, workplace practices, or professional development. The meaning remains clear despite these limitations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex structures, including reason clauses (“because it allows…”) and a contrastive opening to the company paragraph (“While this development…”). Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the examples are expressed in a readable sequence. Some grammatical errors remain. In “it allows them experience,” the verb pattern needs “allows them to experience”; “knowledge that improve their company” requires subject–verb agreement (“improves”); and “the younger generation that work” needs agreement (“works”) or a plural construction. The conclusion’s “in other for them” should be “in order for them.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but checking verb patterns, agreement, and sentence-level accuracy would help you show more consistent control while retaining your range of structures.
