Nowadays many large international companies offer their staff the opportunity to spend a period of time living and working in another country.

Why might this opportunity be good for employees?

What advantages does this development have for companies?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

Many multinational companies provide opportunities to their employees to work from abroad and enjoy their time living there. This would be a better approach for the company and its employees, and the company has many benefits from it.

On the other hand, this opportunity is best for the employees to learn from international people, a better environment, and the best staff of the company. When they work with best individuals of the company, they learn new things from them which will be most benificial for them in coming future. Working with the best staff will give you a chance of seeking more knowladge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes a relevant start by identifying learning from colleagues as a possible benefit for employees, but it addresses the task only minimally. The question asks for reasons the overseas opportunity benefits employees and for advantages to companies; the second part is not explained at all. The opening says the company “has many benefits from it,” but gives no specific company advantage, such as transferring expertise between offices or building stronger international teams. Employee benefits are also asserted rather than developed: “learn new things” and “seeking more knowledge” need explanation or a relevant example. The response is substantially below the required 250 words, which leaves too little space to answer both questions. Develop each side with clear reasons and supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic paragraph break, and the opening introduces the general topic before the next paragraph turns to employees. However, the ideas are not arranged into a coherent response: there is no developed discussion of company advantages, and the final sentence repeats the point about learning rather than advancing the argument. The connector “On the other hand” is not suitable here because the paragraph does not present a contrasting view; it introduces one of the task’s requested benefits. The opening also combines several claims without showing how they relate. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for employee benefits and company benefits, and connect each reason to an explanation or example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “multinational companies,” “employees,” “international,” and “knowledge,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is limited and several choices are imprecise or repetitive: “best staff” and “best individuals” repeat the same vague idea, while “a better environment” does not explain what kind of environment is meant. There are also noticeable spelling errors in “benificial” and “knowladge,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions such as “experienced colleagues,” “professional development,” or “a broader working environment,” and check spelling carefully. More varied vocabulary would help explain distinct benefits for both employees and employers.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response shows some control of basic sentence forms, including the opening sentence and the relative clause in “individuals of the company, they learn new things from them.” It also attempts a longer sentence with “When they work with best individuals of the company,” although this construction is not fully controlled. Articles are missing in phrases such as “with best individuals” and “seeking more knowledge,” and the final sentence shifts from “they” to the general “you,” making the reference inconsistent. The range remains limited, with most ideas expressed through simple statements. Practise accurate article use and consistent pronouns, then add controlled complex sentences to explain cause and effect.
