Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both questions and maintains a relevant focus: employees may gain cultural understanding and career growth, while companies may benefit from higher productivity and expansion into new markets. The Kenya-to-Nigeria bank example helps illustrate how an overseas assignment could demonstrate an employee’s readiness for promotion. These points meet the task well, and the opening and conclusion make the main position clear. However, some benefits are asserted more than explained. For instance, the link between cultural learning and improved work performance could be made clearer, and the company’s potential expansion is not supported with a specific example of how the employee’s local knowledge would enable it. More balanced development of these ideas would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from employee benefits to company advantages, with a separate introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and signposts such as “To begin,” “Again,” and “In conclusion” indicate the stages of the argument. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or imprecise. “Subsequently” does not clearly show how the company benefits follow from the employee-focused discussion, while “At the other times” introduces a point awkwardly. There is also some unclear referencing in “these provides career growth,” where the referent is not immediately clear. Use transitions that express the exact relationship between ideas and connect each example more explicitly to the paragraph’s main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses a relevant range of vocabulary, including “cultural integration,” “adaptability,” “productivity,” and “scope of operation,” which helps communicate the main ideas. It also attempts more formal expressions such as “interpersonal and communication skills.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the meaning less clear: “other works of life,” “more tasking position,” “resulting to increased productivity,” and “memorandum of operation.” There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “nd” and “broadens” where the plural subject requires a different form. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than formal-sounding phrases; for example, use “areas of operation” instead of “memorandum of operation.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay attempts both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning “When these staff…” and “If she successfully achieves this task…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “companies … do so to enable their staff learn” needs a grammatical structure such as “enable their staff to learn,” and “these provides” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “the companies expands,” the plural subject also requires a plural verb. The sentence beginning “At the other times, after the officer…” is difficult to control and would benefit from being divided or recast. Review agreement and verb patterns, and check each sentence for a clear subject and complete structure.
