Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent times many international corporations, offer their employee the opportunity to spend a period of time living and working in another nation.

Working in a different country might create a good scope for the staff, as in international companies there are individuals from different nation and have different skills and cultural beliefs, employee can learn from them, which would be helpful for their career growth and interpersonal skills, if a person doesn't know about certain process, skill or language, they can learn there. For example, I am Dietitian specialising in lifestyle diseases such as diabetic, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and thyroid, if I get a chance to work in a multinational company in a different country which specialises in gut health, it would be a new learning and addition to my skills.

As working in a different nation benefits the employee, similarly it would be a good advantage for the company too. After spending a period of time in a multinational company, employee would have gained some skills that are useful for the company or managing a team, that would benefit the company or help in it's growth, a skill which was lacking in the team, and one of the employee learnt after spending a period of time in another international company, would benefit the company. For example, as I mentioned I am Dietitian and our company currently focuses on lifestyle disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, but after working in a different international company and learning about gut health conditions and managing clients with gut related disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, gastro oesophageal reflux disorder would be an asset and that employee could handle such cases and bring revenue to the company and that will benefit the organisation.

In conclusion, offering opportunity to staff for living and spending a period of time in a large international company would benefit both employee and the company.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and maintain a relevant focus on how overseas work can benefit employees and employers. The employee benefit is explained through learning new skills, languages and cultural perspectives, while the company benefit is linked to gaining expertise and serving a wider range of clients. Your dietitian example gives these points a concrete, personal context. This meets the task well, and the specific example shows some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, the company advantages are largely reduced to acquiring skills and generating revenue; explain further how international experience could improve collaboration, innovation or the company’s understanding of overseas markets. The employee benefits could also be extended beyond career growth and interpersonal skills.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for employees, one for companies, and a conclusion. The progression from employee benefits to company benefits is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For example” help signal supporting evidence. However, the development within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive, particularly the company paragraph, where the idea of learning a skill and benefiting the organisation is restated several times. Some sentences are very long and contain several linked ideas, making the relationships between them less clear. Use clearer sentence boundaries and organise each paragraph around a distinct main point, followed by explanation and an example. More varied, precise linking would also make the progression feel less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including terms such as “interpersonal skills,” “career growth,” “lifestyle disorders” and “revenue.” The specialist health vocabulary in your example adds specificity and shows an attempt to use less common language. Meaning is generally clear, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “good scope” is not natural in this context, and “different nation” is repeated where “another country” or “overseas” would be smoother. There are also form and spelling issues, such as “employee” when referring to staff generally and “diabetic” for the condition “diabetes.” Aim for more natural collocations and avoid repeating “benefit” and “company” by using precise alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if I get a chance” and clauses explaining how new skills could help an organisation. However, control is uneven, and several long sentences contain multiple clauses joined without clear punctuation. For example, the sentence beginning “Working in a different country might create…” combines several ideas and has a comma splice before “employee can learn.” There are also errors in agreement and articles, as in “there are individuals from different nation,” and the conclusion’s “offering opportunity.” These errors sometimes make the reader work to follow the sentence, although the overall meaning remains understandable. Break long sentences into shorter units and check agreement, articles and punctuation when editing.
